The problem for the past five or six years hasn't been the level of spending, but what we have spent it on. Worst recruitment in world football whilst we have had one of our all time great players to build around. It's unforgivable.

I highly doubt it given what happened in summer 2019 and January 2019. But it doesnt even matter. Everton have spent a load of money, if you hire the wrong people, make consistantly terrible decesions and the club loses its identity you are mostly just wasting that money.

Nobody has any belief left in the club under these guys, especially in the current climate of football ruled by heavyweight, nation-state owners.
There was hope under Poch, some for a few minutes under Jose, then again for a summer under Conte. Everytime incompetence and poor planning have resulted in that belief being stomped down again.
They previously got away with blaming managers. there are no managers left to blame.

Why is it a gamble?
The gamble is thinking that ENIC can achieve anything different and tbh, it's a pretty low odds gamble based on the last 23 years.

You think there aren't worse owners out there than ENIC, really?
ENIC have fucked up the football operations of this club in the last 5 years, they aren't taking dividends out the club, they aren't selling our best players, they aren't recklessly not tieing up our assets to long term contracts.
Of course the ideal scenario is that we get competent owners who run the club the way we want them to, that's a scenario we'd all want but then that would be too easy wouldn't it? It's just a weird fetish wanting our rivals to win the league in any scenario regardless.
Anyone who buys in at a multibillion pound valuation has no path to profit other than being an annual fixture in the business end of the Champions League.
They have to invest, they have no other choice. ENIC sitting on a multibillion pound profit has another choice.
A new owner could invest poorly, sure. But we've got that PLUS penury.

There’s no down side to new ownership. An incompetent new owner would likely deliver approximately the same results as the current disinterested/absentee/unambitious ones.
