I too knew ENIC were bad news from very early on. My main reasons were the absolutely shoddy way they treated Graham and the way they oversaw the Campbell shit show. I know GG divided people, but he never gave less than 100% to Spurs, even when he was really unwell he tried to give as much as he could. The grounds they used to lie and enable his sacking were pathetic.
Early days it was Spooky’s Dr Mr Levy Blog that kept me from fury. He really articulated how many of us felt in those early ENIC dark days.
Some of the pathetic decisions they made sicken me to this day. Including what they did with Jamie Redknapp ( tosser ) and Darren Anderton ( Proper Spurs )
That these bastards have been a growth on our club for twenty plus years is not something I take pride in. “Success” ( don’t chuckle) has come inspire of them, not because of them.
As I have said many times, I know a lot of people who have done business with Levy and his wider cohorts. They won’t all be wrong, and none of them have a good word to say about how they conduct themselves.
The point about supporting another “lower level” team is where I can’t save myself. I am first and foremost a Tottenham Hotspur fan, not a football fan. That follows later. And there is the problem for me. I am probably romantically linked to something that does not exist anymore.
My journey to non league was quite strange tbh.
I live 100 miles away from WHL in Leamington Spa.
I have supported Spurs since 1977 when we were in the 2nd division. I saw the 9-0 drubbing of Bristol Rovers on MOTD, when I was 7 years old. The first game I ever attended was Coventry City away in 1981 at Highfield Road. I also saw Spurs play away at Birmingham City, Wolves, West Brom, Villa and Leicester during the early 80's.
The first Spurs home game I attended was in 1983. A 1-1 draw at home to Sunderland. I was 13 and caught the train to London.
I also used to regularly watch A.P. Leamington around this time but they folded in 1988, having been founder members of what is now the Conference. The old ground they played at actually had the original floodlights from Man City's Maine Road dismantled and re-installed at The Windmill Ground when City upgraded their lights in the 70's.
I was 18 when A.P. Leamington folded and the ground was sold off for housing. I then began regularly attending Spurs matches at WHL for the next 20 years. 12 of those years as a Paxton Road season ticket holder. Block 19, row 2 just behind the photographers.
When I packed up Spurs in 08 Leamington had re-formed and were on a journey back through the non league pyramid.
I spent 07 / 08 attending home games at WHL and watching Leamington at home or away on the weeks when Spurs were not playing. This began after Jol's sacking.
It made my decision to pack up my Spurs season ticket much easier.
The trouble is; I love Spurs.
It's tattooed on my leg and burned into my heart.
Thankfully it's this one rather than the ENIC FC brand.
