Its not just a money issue that worries fans when it comes to Levy/ENIC. It goes well beyond that. Its often the bizarre decision making. The dogmatic approach to longterm projects that are followed to a tee with no exceptions under any circumstances or room for leeway/flexibility in their decision making until suddenly the entire project gets ripped up on a whim for no other reason than Levy either being a massive narcissist that cant help but impose himself when its not needed or just damnright boredom. Either way when he does starts imposing himself too much it usually goes tits up. Iv never seen a club where the owner has/wants so much control and input into every little aspect of the club to the point where the manager cant breathe. No manager can seem to last more than a few seasons with this guy before he either puts their nose out of joint or backstabs them, evident by the fact we are now on our 12th full-time manager since Levys arrival. Neither does an owner crave media attention quite like Levy. Usually an owner takes a more “quiet” approach to things, conducts their business silently and lets the manager handle the football side of things. Not Levy. He loves it.
But again the biggest issue was the first point I made. The constant flip flopping on projects and philosophy that often contradict eachother. The dogmatic approach to decision making that often harms us at vital moments. Like our refusal to push on when we were so close to winning titles because it didnt fit whatever Levys fleeting philosophy was at the time, and his inability to adapt in the moment because he didnt want to go a few million overbudget to win a title, but then in the next breath burns the entire project to ground anyway and hires big money managers in Mourinho and Conte that need 200m+ spent a window just to show up. So you can see the contradiction. A good example of the opposite of this are Liverpool. Who will spend proper money at the right moments to push the club on. Even if its just one player. Cute decisions. Not Levy.. if things are going relatively well but with the chance to push on he will refuse, and will squeeze every last drop out of that momentum until there is nothing left to give before we inevitably collapse.
So how can be so dogmatic one moment and then completely change the script the next. Wheres the adherence to ideology? There isnt one. They flip flop between projects because I'm convinced at this point that Levy doesnt have a fucking clue what hes doing when it comes to on-field footballing decisions that he’s so desperate to be involved in. The only thing hes good at is making sure we stay in net profit and expanding our property portfolio. Thats it. He rode the wave with Pochettino who was quite literally a golden goose and he even managed to fuck that one up. He built a nice stadium (over budget and over time I might add) and modernised aspects of the club. Thats it. Thats as far as this story will ever go. Because this guy just doesn't have it in him to understand a good footballing decision. Decisions that you can see a mile away that he doesnt make, or decisions that he does make that leave you utterly baffled. Just one small aspect of this incompetence is the inability to move players on, leaving our squad bloated and in disarray. Selling deadwood. Arguably the more simpler side of football. The one thing an owner should be good at. Every other club seems to be able to do it fine. Not this guy, weve got players still here that should have been sold 5 years ago.
And so to some up we are now on another “longterm project”. With the usual Levy “get back to our roots/attacking football” spew. And already you can see the same mistakes repeating themselves. The only thing is this time we might not have a once in a generation striker bailing us out this season. Going into a season with practically the same squad that finished 8th but without the player that scored you 30 goals to even stay in the top half of the table is a recipe for disaster.
