ENIC In or ENIC Out

You can't.

You've been so damaged by the ENIC regime you would rather believe the 80's were bang average for Spurs and the supporters.

No, I think we were a good team back then, and I think we carved out some moments of glory. But we were not perennial winners, or even perennial contenders. The fact that such a period is considered a hey-day should remind you of how we've been for a lot of the rest of our history. Compared to, say, the Liverpool, Everton and even Woolwich of the time, we were pretty much bang average.

Of course, I don't have to point this out and I could let you be happy with your rose-tinted memories, but, then again you guys can't stop complaining about how we're not winning enough trophies which lost most of their meaning in the 90s and 2000s, and how us coming closer to the league title than any point since the 60s and making a CL final are signs of nothing more than abject failure.

Not so much fun when it's your turn, is it?

The average ENIC supporter now thinks like a West Ham fan.

That is my diagnosis.

I think your problems may be terminal.

Which is funny, because nothing says Small Club Mentality quite like sitting on the internet whining about what our rivals are doing, and berating the chairman for not winning you the League Cup.

Face it, mate, ENIC Out is the epitome of 'small time'.

Mate;

Woolwich were nothing from 81 - 86. Absolute gash.

The 80's belonged to Liverpool but, along with Everton, it was Spurs who started each season as one of the teams fancied to win something and compete for the title.

Spurs were better than United and Woolwich during this period.

Spurs bought the best players and broke transfer records too.

But forget Villa's numbers, let's say West Ham's. What West Ham's owners can say to their fans is "we are in line with the industry standard of ambition and investment of the club's resources on the pitch".
ENIC cannot say that. We are dead last in this measurement every year, and will be even further off the pace when the next figures are released.
I will never, ever get my head around how any fan can defend this. It's absolutely shameful.
Then they wonder why some of us consider them ENIC fans first, and Spurs fans second 🤷‍♂️

That’s a completely insufficient response and you’re smart enough to do better.
You're making the point that we had a brilliant side under Redknapp that reflected years of ENIC investment in the playing squad and transfer market sophistication from Daniel Levy and I agree with you.

You're also making the point that Levy poured blood, sweat, tears, and no shortage of cash into a stadium project that has made a financial behemoth of the club and secured our future for decades to come in a home we can be proud of and I agree with you.

There's one final service needed of Levy, and that's to stop hoarding the inflating value of the monster he's created and hand it over to someone willing to make the most of it.

The ENIC project ended the day we moved into the new stadium. They are neither able nor willing to push us any further. Sitting around and admiring the great scouting of a Southampton teenager during the Third Blair Ministry is not a sporting endeavor.

This has to be one of the worst posts I've ever read on TFC.

In 1982 Spurs were 1-0 up against Liverpool, in the League Cup Final, until the 89th minute. We had never lost a game at Wembley until that day and Liverpool went on to win 3-1 in extra time. Spurs were very unlucky not to win.

You also completely forgot to mention that Spurs lost to Barcelona, over two legs, in the European Cup Winners Cup semi final.

Another fact you've overlooked was that from May 1st to May 17th 1982 Spurs were asked to play 8 league games by the football league.

That would never happen today.

Check it out for yourself.

Spurs went all the way in the F.A. Cup and retained it too.

The lengths some people will go to; to apologise for the current regime is unbelievable.

They won the league in 89, though.

Then how come we didn't? Is it possible that when you guys fancied yourselves at the start of every season, you were being just a teensy-weensy bit deluded? LOL were you the Happy Clappers of your day, telling the world that Spurs are on their way to Wembley again, despite mostly getting knocked out in the 4th Round?

Do you think it's possible, just possible, that you lot are the reason why everyone loved hating Spurs so much when they became crap in the 90s, and enjoyed putting the boot in so much?

Spurs were better than United and Woolwich during this period.

I mean, United won 2 FA Cups and came 2nd (plus 3rd twice) in the league, and Woolwich actually won the league, so... maybe not?

Were you a deluded Happy Clapping Ty-from-AFTV kinda guy back then, and are misremembering?

Spurs bought the best players and broke transfer records too.

Then how come Liverpool and Everton performed so much better? Maybe we overspent on crap...

See now that's fair. I wouldn't be opposed to some sugar daddy swooping in to make us the Big Club we've been built to be. I'll just be more grateful to the bald one than most of this forum, if we do.

Is it, though? Again, Top 6 for a decade, 6 our of 10 seasons in the Top 4, reaching the CL final, building the best club stadium in the land...

Sure, we haven't enjoyed the success we're truly craving yet, but I believe you're kidding yourselves if you don't think that West Ham fans (and most clubs' fans, tbh) would KILL to have had our recent history.

It's a shame you didn't experience it tbh.

You would know how wrong you are then.

Spurs were a credible club then that competed for the best players in the transfer market and for trophies every season.

Until George Graham arrived at Woolwich they were in our shadow. 86 /87 was the turning point.

United were going through similar problems to the ones they currently face.

Ron Atkinson couldn't win them the league and Ferguson arrived in 86 but took 4 seasons to win a trophy.

You clearly have no understanding of the era; which is also fine.

Levy and ENIC have done an admirable job in persuading supporters like you that Spurs cannot expect to be that club in 2025.

Sure I do. I'm just ripping off the rose-tinted veil you've applied to it all these years and pointing out to you that most seasons we were simply crap. Your delusions from the past about getting the best players and competing for trophies every year is quite simply a load of bollocks.

Sorry. :davieshmm:

You're damn fucking right, mate. I expect instead to be in the Champions League final and challenging for the title, because that's the bar ENIC have set for me in recent years.

You can keep on dreaming of Wembley for all I give a shit, but please don't try to tell me that I'm the one who is thinking 'small time'.

Levy and ENIC do not sign Waddle, Gascoigne and Lineker.

They sign Gil, Tel, Bostock and Prince Boateng.

...and Edgar Davids, Rafael van der Vaart, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Carrick, Luka Modric, Hugo Lloris, Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon, Kyle Walker, Jan and Toby, Eriksen, Son, Dele, Mousa, not to mention develop Harry Kane from our own ranks.

That's a little better than Rebrov and Hutton.
