That is ridiculous, the cups have never been above winning the league, we win the league, we'd be in Europe's biggest competition. There was much more prestige and revenue from winning the league.
I'm serious.

The old set up had the European Cup. Only the champions from each league took part.

When Nottingham Forest won it in 79 they played Liverpool in the first round and then; AEK Athens, Grasshoppers, Cologne in the semi and Malmo in the final.

There were no live league matches in those days so the participating clubs sold the TV rights to each European game and these matches were often shown live on free terrestrial TV.

Things were different.

The were different but no way were winning domestic cup competitions more important than winning the league. We simply weren't good enough to win the league, it wasn't a question of choosing the cups because of the revenue.

I'm hearing whispers that Qatar grow tired of the Glazers and the way they conduct business. They are looking Spursward is the word on the street.

Those sweet spring babies. If they thought the bald brother Glazers were annoying wait till they get a load of our little bald cunt.

Again not true.

in 1982 Spurs were arguably the best team in the league.

However; We reached the F.A. Cup and League Cup finals as well as the Semi final of the European Cup Winners Cup where we were basically cheated out of the final.

The F.A. would not allow clubs to field 'weakened' teams in league fixtures so all the league games we couldn't play were scheduled for the end of the season before the F.A. Cup final.

Seems unbelievable now but it is true.

65 games

8 league games played from May 1st until the 17th.

A good season but like I said not good enough to win the league, Liverpool won it that year as well as beating us at wembley whille Villa won the European cup. Today we wouldn't even smell those stages while going for a CL place.

They will be looking elsewhere before the day is finished or they will be shut in Levy's basement along with previous interested parties. Anytime a consortium is interested they are gone quick and I never hear from them again.

Spurs took 8 points from a possible 24 during the 8 league games played between May 1st and May 17th.

It was a game every two days and included 2 games (6 pointers) against Liverpool at home on May 3rd and away on the 15th.

Imagine that happening today?

If it was today we would have abandoned the cup competitions long ago and still end up runners up in the league.

I’d have loved to see that team, they seemed to be made of tough(er) stuff.

My dad got to see them though. He reckons we were robbed in the final against Liverpool.

The FA Cup was not as important as the league , but the prestige was pretty close. ITV and BBC pretty much dedicated 9.00am - 6.00PM to the cup final at a time of only 3 or 4 channels

I mean there was certainly much more prestigious in those days but it essentially comes down to the one day, nobody remembered the semifinalists. I still wouldn't say it was close with the league, in those days Liverpool were kings because of the league and then European successes.

It's not. It's made up bullshit like everything else he posts.
