Mr LeParisien LeParisien

What’s La Rochelle actually like???

You don’t get it - so stop trying to “fix” something that isn’t yours and you don’t understand.

Being a fan isn’t just about winning the PL title. The football club is the lifeblood of towns all over England that don’t always play in the top flight like Leceister, Sunderland, Nottingham, Bolton to name but a few … We are not dooming their fans to permanent lower league football because some Yank thinks the PL isn’t entertaining enuf for him. You want parity and a closed shop - you have it right there at home. You don’t need to change everything in your image. Stop being an ugly American who thinks the American way is the best. It is no longer 1945.

also you love Judas Campbell good for you - and your argument is stupid - Judas had the freedom to go to Red Scum - it’s not legally restricted- Just like you have the freedom to betray your friends/cheat on your wife. But if you do, your friends/wife will hate you for it and rightfully so … and so we hate Judas.
Lol. What a fucking idiot. Like I said, you blew in here 6 months ago and know fuck all about me. In fact, this might be our first interaction. Probably our last as well, you fucking idiot.

Ironically both times you wrote “you’re” should actually have been “your”.

An easy way to tell is to see whether “you are” makes sense in the sentence. If it does then “you’re” is appropriate; otherwise it’s “your”.

Listen, I’m only playing but if you’re going to go around calling people idiots all the time at least give the impression that you are not one.
Spelling and good diction isn't necessarily an indicator of superior intelligence, a lot of genius level people couldn't spell or put two sentences together for shit.
Even a lot of creative writers are saved in the edit.

I have a word for petty people who feel the need to correct spelling and grammar on a forum. The PC version is "Nigel" the non PG version is "cunt"

Oh dear....
It's prodictive text

Why are we assuming that Luton will finish bottom? Brentford played their first season in the Premier League a couple of seasons ago and they've been holding their own. Brighton have become more competitive and beat us to European football this season. The Premier League has been more competitive than it has been for years. Woolwich would have won the league this season if they hadn't dropped points against West Ham, Southampton and Brighton and no one expected their team to be anywhere near fit for a title challenge in the pre-season for 22/23. We were the team people fancied as a dark horse for the league.

And all three newly promoted teams stayed up this season at the expense of established clubs who took their Premier League status for granted. That could be us next season unless we make big improvements to our defence. The football league system works.
It works all the way up until the top, where it doesn't work because there are half a dozen clubs that have more than 600% of the resources of some others.

But it greatly imperils clubs who have to gamble, greatly, on staying up because the financial consequences of relegation are so incredibly high thanks to the PL.

As I said earlier, the foundation of the PL was one of the last straws that cast the die here. Even accounting for the era 25-50 years ago which included United's early PL domination and the last years of restricted player movement which helped Liverpool's dynasty to hold, there were 9 different champions of England and much more diversity over the years with the number of clubs that finished at the top of the table.

Not all of it is the PL's fault. Things began going this way once the game began being heavily commercialized in the 70s. The PL and global TV money just accelerated the effect.

I do quite enjoy these conversations, though, because a lot in the UK denigrate the closed system of US sports - which is approximately a socialist structure. Meanwhile you rabidly defend the current structure of football, which is basically unregulated free-market capitalism which soothes itself with the illusion of competition and opportunity - which is basically the American economy, the rich get richer and the poor grow more distant.

Anyway, all of this just casts me as a larger proponent of a closed system than I am. I do believe the sport, in a competitive sense, would benefit from it. I don't believe it would cause lower level football to collapse - there's several score over a hundred clubs playing and being supported that don't even have the rational ability to dream of the PL.

I really just want a more competitive league, and one that Spurs have a realistic opportunity of winning. We blew our chance to nick one several years ago, and without significant changes to the system I honestly don't believe we'll have another chance in the next 15-20 years.

Which is, in the end, why I've always been bullish on the Europa League. It's the best trophy for which we can habitually compete, if only we would do that.
