. Tottenham have always had match winners which win matches despite the overall performance. Greaves, Hoddle &Kane being the most notable. Not any more. Son is past his best and only Romero could be classed as world class and as a defender not a match winner.
We need to go all out to get a match winner but why would a player of that quality come to Spurs when we never win anything?
Agree that we have relied on special players to helps us punch to the next level. Eriksen, Kane and Bale were exceptional talents.
I'd argue that a defender can be classed as a match winner. For instance, Cialini, Ramos, Terry. But Romero would need to show a lot more desire to aspire to those levels.
I'm not sure Spurs would realistically be able to sign any established elite talent. Spurs just simply aren't a big club (Money Yes, recognition No). A player signing for Spurs has likely exhausted options at around a dozen more desirable clubs.
