There is an incredibly easily measurable correlation between wage spend and success lol, it’s not opinion it’s fact. Of fucking course that doesn’t mean spend big wages for the sake of it or ineptly like Manchester United, nobody is asking for that..

But clubs that constantly stay in their box are never likely to challenge. We have always been more cowardly with spending. We’d never have invested the 100m in Rice for example with a 200k+ a week wage too.

When are we ever in for a top table player like that? Never. So we never make that next step at all. Van Djik and Alisson took Liverpool there - anyone see Levy making signings of that calibre?

There’s no reason we can’t btw. We are a wealthy London club. We can challenge for top tier talent but we settle for Solanke, Johnson and some kids. Well we don’t, but we know the fans who do.. they’re in this thread with us.

Solanke for example - good player tbf. Never a Kane replacement. You replace elite with Solanke, Maddison, Johnson (good mid table talent) .. you’ll finish where you deserve.

Some people are happy with this. Again, we know who they are. They deserve everything they get tbh. Apparently they don’t really care anyway, which is nice.

Not to argue against but I’d point out that we possibly have made some signing for real quality but the clubs mentality makes them disinterested or leave as we never seem to show the ambition to push on. I’d wager that some of this seasons few positives, Bergvall , Gray will not be at the club in 4 or 5 years .

Which of our players do you think deserve to earn more money? Gray, Spence & Bergvale possibly but in the past the club has given established players a new contract with more money. So if Levy gave those 3 & possibly others higher wages, how will that help improve our results?
Isaac is a top player, no idea on his wages but his transfer fee was similar to Solanke but it is totally unrealistic to expect us to persuade him to come to us until we have won something. Haaland was not a top player when bought, playing in a farmers league. It was better scouting.
I'm not sure where you're going with this. I don't think any of our players deserve more money... quite a few of them deserve less!!! My point which I think you have missed or maybe I didn't explain it well enough is that Levy has a wage budget and he will not increase that. If someone arrives in the good bracket someone is moving out of the above average bracket. It's not easy to see but this is what we do. I will also point out that Haaland arrived from a team who are regulars in the Champions League knock out stage scoring a ridiculous 86 goals in 89 games. He was and absolutely top player but his transfer to City was done and dusted almost as soon as he signed for Dortmund. As for Isak, we could have bought him from Sociedad for the 60m Newcastle paid and his wages are 120k a week. Not sure what Newcastle had won that persuaded him to leave Spain. We won't be in the running when he moves this summer for 100m + and 300k a week.

Completely agree. Spurs sign garbage players - so why do the fans demand the coach is fired for not winning the league?

Tell me 1 coach in world football that could genuinely have got consistent results with this squad minus VDV/Romero/Vicario? Yet somehow Ange is being held to that level of scrutiny. Would we demand Pep be fired for trying to play tiki taka with 18 year olds?
This is a great point. A lot of people on here think this squad is a top 5 squad and put all this on Ange. Yes, Ange is part of the problem and another coach might have us in 13th or 12th with better tactics and some injury luck. Slot might even have us in 9th or 10th but there is no manager in the world who (along with European football) would have us any higher.

Utd pay elite wages, as do Chelsea. They’re still struggling relatively. Liverpool have a lower wage to turnover ratio than all the other top clubs, they’re still winning the league.

It’s not that simplistic, pay more wages win more. You need to get the right players and our problem is we’re not very good at doing that. People not acknowledging that and just blindly just wanting us to pay more is a little bit naive.

But I get it wage to turnover is now the buzz phrase. It used to be net spend and eventually it’ll be something else.
Spending a billion and paying everyone 250k plus a week does not guarantee you win the league...

But it gives you a much fucking better chance than if you sit still, decrease your wage bill and allow Villa, Forest and Fulham to move past you.

And winning the league back before colour TV doesn't make Spurs a big club now.
We're a historically massive club that's massively under achieving, pal.
I won't have my football club besmirched and belittled by you or anyone else.
For all the stick he gets, Gary Neville spent his whole career in the Premier League playing against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur. I'll take his word over yours

Some sense. Well played.

Take out Salah VDV and TAA who have been at the club for an age and you see they bring in players on similar wages and for similar fees to us.

Everyone is obsessed with money because they have been convinced by Sky and Talksport it's the most important thing in the world so they can sell loads of ads during transfer silly season.

There are a lot of easy marks who follow football

The issue is Levy. He's been in the job too long and is getting worse at it. The club needs new leadership so we can make better overall decisions, like Liverpool have done the past ten years. The Ange debacle is a new low, that such an obviously unqualified coach has been given so much rope, and heading for 20+ losses in the league, with multiple players going backwards in their development.

Unfortunately, I am resigned to the fact that Levy isn't going anywhere, so I just hope against hope that he strikes gold when he puts on the blindfold, throws the dart at the board and chooses our next coach.

Disagree , I think the most important thing in football is entertainment & that is shaped by how you are run which does include money , it’s unavoidable.

For fans of a club entertainment is mostly about feeling happy with how things are . I doubt there are many who are happy with the current situation at Spurs . Regarding the transfer shenanigans of rolling sports news , it’s a bit weird to get wound up by the faux drama.

I agree that should be the issue, but go read the transfer thread, any of them - the amount of people who get wound up by the faux drama and the price of transfers and wages is astonishing. A number of poster who frequent this thread especially.

I agree. We need a new leadership and a way of investing our money better - more isn't even the issue many point it out to be be.

Did we actually make a profit in latest accounts? If we made a loss get rid of romero for big money.

Need to offload romero imo. Get good money for him. Richarlison as well.

So you want to sell players to plug the financial losses?
Are we about to "do a Leeds" ?
Fans would revolt if we sold players and didn't spend every penny of those fees on the squad.

I'm pretty sure all these finances are just smoke and mirrors. They can use numbers from here there and everywhere to paint whatever picture they want.
I've heard a few people talking about putting stadium depreciation down as a loss.

It's not a used car. Properties are assets and don't depreciate in the same way liabilities, like cars do. Add to that the fact this is a commercial use property, IE, its sole purpose is to make money through use and the money making opportunities are increasing.....

You have to just tell yourself that until they’re holding up the shirt it’s just noise or if it’s a known star , it isn’t happening. 👍

Yeah. I’d add “eventually”, or, “sooner or later”, but yeah.

He expects to leave if we don’t get our act together. And sadly, it’s more, “Tottenham are a stepping stone”.

I fully expect Dragusin agent to pipe up again soon

I wonder what Cup he’ll win when he leaves ?
