Ange’s lilywhites are on the march.

Another match on our conquest of Europe. Expect a bit of rotation again, but hopefully not too drastic.

Vicario
Gray - Romero - Van de Ven - Davies
Bissouma
Sarr - Bergvall
Johnson - Solanke - Son
Hard to predict the back line with Dragusin suspended and Udogie going off today.

Also not sure on Son, but hopefully he’s available.

Just rest VDV at all cost. Play Gray as CB if Udogie is not fit (so Porro - Romero - Gray - Davies in such case, or Gray as LB). Porro got his rest against Coventry and Qarabag so should be good to play. Midfield picks itself (Biss, Sarr, Berg). Play Dom max for 55-60 minutes. If Son is fit - put him on bench but play Werner from start so maybe he regain confidence partially. I think Mickey minutes are managed by Ange, so put him for Brennan at half time.

Squad v ManU today :

Vicario, Pedro Porro, Romero (c), van de Ven (Dragusin 81), Udogie (Spence 46), Kulusevski, Bentancur, Maddison (Sarr 77), Werner (Bergvall 77), Solanke, Johnson (Moore 77).
Substitutes (not used): Forster, Gray, Bissouma, Lankshear.

Udogie brought off at HT after straining something towards the end of the first half - can't see him playing on Thursday, and with no Spence in EL, Davies will be at LB

Dragusin is banned, whilst Van de Venn's played a few games in a row, so I think Gray will get time as a CB in his place. Porro and Romero rested against Qarabag so no reason not to start them.

Bissouma may well come in for Bentancur so as to rotate - may be both playing 45 mins. I'd start Bergvall (as he did against Qarabag), leaving Kulusevski on bench to come on in 2nd half either in CM or RW depending on other players. Maddison rested v Quarabahg so no need to rest him. Sarr also available if needed.

Up front we are a little thin so probably no option other than to start Solanke, Johnson and Son - but Lankshear coming on after around 60 mins to give Solanke a rest and one of Kulusevski, Werner or Moore on for Johnson in 2nd half or half time. Thin up front but still ways to shuffle the available players to rotate
.
Vicario
Porro, Romero, Gray, Davies
Bissouma, Maddison, Bergvall
Johnson, Solanke, Son

Subs : Forster, Van de Venn, Udogie (?) Bentancur, Sarr, Bergvall, Kulusevski, Werner, Moore, Lankshear , plus room for a couple of List B U21's

Don’t see a world where Bergvall doesn’t start. Hes owed minutes after taking one for the team last Thursday

Once again; no Spence (and now Dragusin) is less than ideal... So is the 3 missing fwds.

Strategically; a win here is not as important as the home tie v QBag was (where bagging the 'easier' 3 home points was important). Protect who we must so we can still go hard v Brighton.

Start Werner again to afford Sonny the necessary recovery time...... If we can get on top then we can field Mikey and not burden Son at all. Udogie defo needs to take the night off after pulling up in the last 2 games too...... Need to remember he's not long back from surgery.

BJ & Kulu can play a half each on the right like they did last week.

Vic
Porro / Rom / Davies / Gray
Sarr / Biss / Berg
BJ / Dom / Werner

Completely agree with this, except I'd give Son's injured hamstrings further rest and start Mikey Moore. Also I'd start Kulu up front, Solanke is due a rest.
I'd consider giving Sarr one half, subbing on/off for Maddison so he's fresh for Brighton.

IMO too early to start Moore, but who knows

Fully agree son needs a rest as he's played in all the games so far this season - just a question if Ange thinks one game rest against ManU is enough or not. After this its Brighton in PL and then international break where we hope he doesn't play 90 mins in each game - but we don't control his minutes there.

I think we need to start Solanke as he's such a focal point for attack and goal scorer - but ideally sub him early in 2nd half when we are ahead. And I'd like Lankshear to get meaningful minutes with a view that he can regularly rest Solanke for 30 mins or so once a week or so this season - as well as develop him to become a possible first team striker option over the next months/year.

Would go with:
Vic
Porro Rom Gray Davies
Sarr Bentancur Bergvall
BJ Solanke Werner

Subject to game state at 55-60 mins bring on Moore, Biss, Kulu for BJ, Bent, Solanke
Then later on get Madders and Lankshear for Berg and Werner

Odobert picked up what is thought to be a Grade 3 hamstring (typical recovery time 3 - 4 weeks) v Coventry on 18 September so should be available for first game after on international break on 19 October v Wham, or shortly after.

If true, we just need to get past this EL match and Brighton before getting one more forward back into contention just after the international break.

I'm aware of this; but we don't know what's up with Sonny yet.... Must have been painful at the very least cos he'd have been out there today otherwise.

Vicario
Gray - Romero - Davies - Udogie
Sarr - Bissouma - Bergvall
Johnson - Solanke - Werner
I can see this being the team and then rewarding Spence with a start at Brighton tbh. Though if Udogie isn't fit enough for this, I think Porro will start, Davies moves to LB and Gray potentially partners Romero at the back.

Get in and out of there with a win.

Vicario
Porro. Romero. Gray. Davies

Bentancur Bergvall

SARR
Moore. Solanke. Werner

He wont play Son or Udogie and Bentancur will play until his ban comes

Some of you are badly underestimating this team

A backline of gray, Romero, Davies, udogie . If udogie isn't fit then it's gonna have to vdv next Romero

Ferencvaros has exactly the same UEFA coefficient ranking as Qarabag, who we beat with 10 men and one CB (Van de Venn as Romero serving a one match ban). So a comparable threat on the football field.

The issue concerning most on TFC is Van de Venn has started too many games recently and his hamstrings could be at risk - and if they go that's a huge risk he's out for anything from 4 weeks up to a few months.

Hence safety first by resting Van de Venn to play Gray - but with Bissouma or Bentancur in front to shield the back 4 (as we did today which seemed to work out ok)

Son has played in every game this season, so irrespective of how Son felt, I think Ange planned to rest him.

Son was due to train on Saturday, so think he could have played, but why risk him, he needed the rest
