I recall Leeds having a pop in the coach and horses a few seasons back. We were in the Irish centre, word got about and suddenly walking to the ground you could sense a tense atmosphere. Walking along the park lane after was interesting, a lot of spurs were outside the away turnstiles and we're obviously keen to wish Leeds a safe trip back to Yorkshire.

Saw man utd getting chased up the high road by our mob, that was quite frightening, I didn't want to get caught up in it and the police were in hot pursuit. Loads of punches and trying to swap shirts that day!

The funniest was at Coventry. Under Gross? Anyway we got spanked, I was with my mate and his mates , all Coventry, in the home stands, come half time I had enough, ruel fox was trudging off and off I marched to the front of the stand to give him verbals, he's looking at me in amazement, as the spurs lot were at the other end of the ground......It was at this point I felt a lot of Midlands eyes on me!!!!! Actually they were ok, had to shut my gob and sit there and watch the inevitable second half collapse........

After the game we went into the Coventry supporters bar, right below the away section......I was advised to not reveal myself as spurs......Then about ten minutes later it's mayhem, the doors are being locked, stuff is bouncing off the windows and lots of London voices asking Coventry if they fancied some fresh air........Great I thought, just watched us get beat now I am likely to get thumped by another spurs fan.......Anyway the old bill arrived calmed it down......And I had to listen to ' spurs thugs this' and ' Yid hooligan's that..........I was pissed off by this point and just announced to this group of lads I was spurs.......No menace but I couldn't keep quiet anymore........I was asked to leave! Lol!!

I'm more of a mexican tuna baguette man these days.

Anybody here remember when the inter city firm stormed the southern end of the shelf?
I was a youngster at the Paxton end so I was well away from it, but it was a big scrap that's for sure.
I was in the upper shelf.
They were in the lower say about what is now blocks 29/30. Just below one of the staircases
I remember meeting my old mate who I used to go home and away with when I was a kid. Turned out to be a right hooligan
As we were walking up the stairs to the upper shelf there were a handful on the other side , you know where you can't get to , and they shouted " there's xxxxx " I was shocked they knew him by his surname. Insults were traded. So we knew they were there
( edit turned out he couldn't even have a decent night out with us. We were in a local pub in Shoreditch aroud the same time and he was looking over his shoulder all the time for rival football hooligans Couldn't go here or there with us as he could bump into West Ham or Woolwich)

I wondered why they never came up in the first place. No way were they getting up into the shelf. They broke out and made a little progress. Then they didn't have much resistance where they were.
It all went off outside as well when everyone was waiting for them to come , and I got a few digs.

A fighter and a talker...

I know a few who were amongst others meeting Woolwich etc in places on nights outside of football and having fights.
They had been at it for years.
3 of them are banned for life but I bumped into 2 of them in the Paxton against Chelsea when we drew 1-1msome years back, Crouch VDV time.
They were at it then but I haven't seen any of them since then.

No not really a fighter. ( I could probably talk you to within an inch of your life your right:))
I can hold my hands up, but I was never in a firm.
Sometimes got caught up in it all, but it didn't interest me that much.
I was also young and hormonal.
Really you have to be seriously fucked in the head or just a complete tool if your in you 40's and still playing soldiers.

Few years ago Woolwich away, at the Emirates not Highbury so can't be that long ago, maybe 6-7 years ago, saw quite an extensive fight not too far from the ground. No idea if it was our main firm or another little lot. Small numbers on either side. What struck me was how fast it all was when you see it up close.

Cardiff away in the cup, the game mentioned on this thread. I was in the escort from the pub near the station to the ground (and back again afterwards). This was mainly our firm but also a few normal fans like me who happened to go for a drink in that pub. This took about an hour (and we missed some of the game) because of Cardiff lads coming to "meet" us. They lobbed pints and bottles at us from one of the pubs we passed, I tried to get out the way of them and the Old Bill pushed me back into the road and into their path! A few fights where both Spurs and Cardiff broke the escort before and after the game.

Lazio away, the time someone was stabbed and nearly died. I didn't see that incident, but at the game there was a small fight with the Old Bill. During the game it went around that anyone going to the toilet was getting attacked by them with their batons! Also people were pissed off at the police being shit the night before, (and also just pissed), so it went off after the game in the concourse whilst we were locked in, the riot police were ran down some stairs I think.

I also randomly saw a fight, not at all organised, on a bus back to Lime Street after Everton away a few years ago. Really gobby scouser mouthing off at some yids, given plenty of warnings, and eventually there ended up being a fight just one on one, the scouser got what he was asking for.

Maybe a few other incidents at home games, which probably most people have seen on the High Road, where the away escort is broken briefly and a few punches thrown, but nothing much.

Considering all the games I've been to, it's not much to have seen over the years really, and it was easily avoided on all occasions. The only times I've been scared was Lazio away getting to the game (because of what happened the night before and other incidents in Rome with English clubs over the years) and Partizan Belgrade away before the game, and both times nothing happened in the end, and it was more of an enjoyable adrenaline rush than anything else. West Ham used to be a bit hairy coming out after the game (back in the late 90s) but those times abroad were the only times I was proper bricking it!

I think football violence and the risk to the ordinary fan is blown out of all proportion by the media. Certainly seems it was different in the 70s/80s, and I can't comment on that, but I imagine there was still an element of exaggeration and scaremongering even back then.
