On the "All Hallows" wiki page, it says the Sprylions was "of the All Hallows Bible Class" whereas another source mentions how "they asked John Ripsher, known to many of them as the Bible Class teacher from the nearby All Hallows Church, for his help".

I think the terminology used for the passage of Sprylions indicates he may not have been the teacher at All Hallows, but was involved in another role.

It reads to me, Sprylions was in the Bible class along with the other boys who started the club, when the Football club started to take off they turned to their teacher (a teacher) as a senior person, to act as president...basically, what Abbey Yid said!
 
John Ripsher was indeed the first president although he was a grown up amongst mere boys whose names are mentioned on page 1.

The founders of our club are indeed those young boys, led by Robert Buckle, who dreamt of a football club and turned it into reality.

Apologies for reviving this 10 year old thread only I stumbled across it whilst looking up John Ripsher for some research.
 
Don’t know if anyone’s still looking at this thread but I thought I’d add that I’m related to JH Thompson who founded the club. It’s a fairly distant relationship through the generations but the story I have been told was that several boys were interested in playing together but it was the fathers who got it going properly and JH was a very active part of it. There is also a direct family connection down to a football magazine ‘Inside Football’ which was around in the 70’s or 80’s as well.

Not got much else to add just now but I’m going to start looking for more details in the future.
