Attention to detail. The snack in Eriksen's hand is Spurs branded and it contains no nuts, unless someone that has that written it thinks Eriksen has no nuts.

[formation="4123, Lloris, Aurier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Dier, Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Kane, Son"][/formation]

This is what I would go with, two players that can track back in Sonny and Sissoko on Vertonghen's side, to combat his lack of pace. Eriksen in a free role and drifting in behind Sir Harry Kane.
In light of seeing the Mouse and Rose in the squad, I would personally shift this to Sissoko and Dembele starting with Dier in the middle, keeping the back four identical. I love Winks and feel he is a better footballer than Sissoko but this isn't the game for him, we will not have anywhere near as much possession as usual and we need a strong midfield unit. I think with that strong midfield core, Sissoko putting in the leg work and Dembele winning the ball back and shielding, Dier tracking the runners we could give them a run for their money. Add to that a stable back four, that will slot into a back 5 of sorts when they have the ball as Sonny drops back and I feel quietly confident we can do something.

That being said, I have a slight feeling that Rose may start but think that would be a mistake IMO, don't exactly want to bring back what is frankly a clearly unfit player back after 10 months against Ronaldo, Isco and co.

Tottenham visit the Bernabéu on Tuesday night on Champions League business, and we caught up with their manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Poch is thinking tactics whilst the photo is being taken - how dedicated is that to getting it right?

We need to be tactically sound, no errors, every player playing to their potential, a decent ref and to take our few chances.
We mustn't (I don't expect it to happen) collapses and be humiliated - confidence is key for this side and we must come away form this with our heads held high and knowing we gave it 100%. No matters what happens we must give a good account of ourselves, good confidence is key for me this season.

Rose playing would be incredible. Their right back is pretty inexperienced at this level I believe? And a fully fit Rose wanting to be starting at the World Cup would eat him alive.

I just have doubts over Rose's fitness. Though having him back on the bench is a great boost and allows us to give him game time in the second half considering we are likely to start a make shift left back if Davies hasn't travelled.

If we play Son at LB we'll get murdered.
If we play Trippier at LB we'll get murdered.
If we play back 4 they'll run over us.

If Vert is LB with Dier as CB and Wanyama and Dembele out we've got no midfield.

Trying to be optimistic but i'm really struggling :(

Agree, except Trips at LWB?

:pochsulk:
Haha yeah I know but with Davies apparently unavailable I didn't know who else to put at LWB. KWP definitely isn't ready and I much prefer the back 3 to the back 4. Perhaps Dier into the back 3, Vertonghen at LWB and Sissoko into midfield? But that would leave us without a defensive player in midfield which I think we'll need against Madrid. Tough decisions for Poch in this one.

I’m not looking forward to it.
I think the best we can hope for is a draw.
If we play high I think we could get found out.
Unless we press the bollocks out of them.

Of course it would be lovely if we could win but we didn’t beat Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, City or Woolwich away last year.
Europe is a little different though. Not so well known.
Alderwiereld and Eriksen are the veterans of CL apps in the team from their time with Ajax. Wouldn’t think it.
Llorente Aurier Vertonghen next.
But the Madrid team have much more experience throughout.

Left back is a worry. No Tripper as LWB if we do 3 at the back. If we do to play the only left footed defender capable there would mean putting Dier into the 3 and having either Winks or Sissoko alongside Dembele

You never know.
Love for us to beat them.
