As a Southerner, that was almost as indecipherable for me as the "English English" scene in Austin Powers.

I taught a course on, among other things, masculinity and football, and there was a unit devoted Gazza's tears that involved watching some interviews. None of the American students could understand him for shit. We had a student from Bristol, and even she struggled.

OTOH, when we watched the scene from "The Firm" where they discuss their plans, all the students whined about the Brummie accent. Here the Bristoler took umbrage and explained that he was perfectly comprehensible.

On the subject, from that video I found my way to a video of Peter Sellers on the set of Dr. Strangelove (one of my favorites) doing a variety of English accents. Laughed my ass off
