Player Guglielmo Vicario

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He would be one of the last players I would want injured.

Fuck knows where we go from here. It's hard signing a keeper in the transfer window when they know they are likely to be number 2 and will only play X amount of games over a season.

Only just saw this. Are we sure it happened during the match? Nobody is playing through a displaced ankle fracture. Hairline fracture maybe but that wouldn’t require surgery.

He’s undergone surgery; apparently.

Just not good news at all for us ( and him ) .

There are worse things happening out there ( obviously) . But this is a kick in a tender part of our anatomy to put in politely .

What keepers are out of contract who we could get short term?

Joe Hart ? (!) ….. Dino Zoff ?

Glenn Hoddle has done the job before.

I’m running out of ideas .

I think it’s Fraser Forster time ; for the immediate future, at least.

EDIT: Just seen that KEYLER NAVAS is a FREE AGENT.

In all seriousness; he could be given a rolling contact; just to be Fraser’s back-up . Stranger things etc .

The same way they have to leave Foyth out the CL squad, or let Aurier go on a free or Doherty sold to Ath Madrid because we screwed up the squad numbers.

Our squad administration is atrocious. I swear you never hear of another club that has these same issues. There is always such a lack of planning and has been for years.
Different times, different people running the recruitment now.

Time for Forster to step up and relive his spell that saw him get an England berth.

He's not a bad keeper, it's just that opinions seem to have formed based on his penalty shootout last season. I doubt we'll have too many penalty shootouts in the Prem just yet. He kept pretty well against Galatasaray, so maybe wait until he's played before shitting the bed.

Could someone who has watched Austin regularly (and recently) give a fair and balanced appraisal of him?
I watched all of the preseason games where he played. From what I can recall, he had one dodgy moment of indecision, where he put the ball out for a corner. Other than that, I thought he was solid, made the saves he should make, and pulled out a Worldie save from a point blank header. It wasn't straight at him either, his reflexes were superb.

It's not a good scenario losing your first choice, but I think the panic over the quality of our keepers is misplaced personally.

Now just pray to God, Allah, Jehovah, Buddha and the Universe that I haven't now jinxed them!

In all seriousness; what happens if / when Fraser gets injured ?

Our Beloved Chairman is a cautious man ( for better or worse) ; a longish injury to Vic really makes us vulnerable. An ankle fracture / surgery with a few complications thrown in could see Vic out for the season. Or if rushed back ;
re-injured ( which could amount to the same thing) .

Obviously having two “ number one “ GK’s is unrealistic; ( apart from International sides ) .

But :

I really think we need to be proactive re getting someone else in ; if FF proves to be the second coming of Pat Jennings ; then all well and good .

After the genuine ( and deserved ) feel good factor of Saturday evening: this really is a kick in the teeth that needs to be addressed ASAP in my opinion.

Apologies if I sound pessimistic.

No apology necessary. Forster might well do ok, but he's not as good as Vicario, so there will be a drop off in quality.

It remains to be seen whether that drop off is significant or not.

All I'm really saying is that panicking about it seems senseless to me. I could never see the sense in inventing worst case scenarios, then going all to pieces over them. Most of the time they never come to fruition, so you've worked yourself into a panic over absolutely nothing.

My Wife does it all the time, drives me up the fucking wall!

Ha, mine too.

Subsequently, I haven't told her about the injury to Vic.

It’s taken 24 hours, but I’ve finally found a silver lining.

I gather we were looking for a goalie to give Vic competition anyway. If you’re a talented young goalie, would you rather come to the team where the first choice goalie has been ever present for the last 50 matches, or the team where he’s currently out injured for 3 months? Gutted for Vic, but hopefully this will help us recruit a more ambitious rival.

In the meantime, we should get behind Fraser. Though I can’t see him pulling off some of what Vic can do, I think he’s a strong character and he’ll surprise us.

doubt Fraser is 90min/EPL ready.
too heavy & slow for a full top end game. Used to be quite good 4 or 5 seasons ago.

Lets see what happen versus Fulham.

I haven’t slagged off Forster, just our recruitment admin. He played well against AZ too. As long as they don’t ask him to do too much with the ball at his feet he’ll be fine.

Ironically how we got Dragusin last season in a similar fashion (even though he then didn’t play for ages) because VDV and Romero then immediately came back
