Player Guglielmo Vicario

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

A very valid point. The way keepers are being evaluated these days places too much emphasis on things other than their core function.

It is increasingly important for keepers to be able to use their feet competently, a teams possession play can be winning or losing based on the keepers ability here

A keepers ability to command their box is key, if they just stay rooted to their line they are a problem

A keepers distribution is key, accurate kicking can turn defence into attack, inaccurate can turn defence into more defence and increasing pressure

Mentality is absolutely key. Not only in keeping concentration, but also in imparting calm and confidence to a defence. When a keeper is erratic, unreliable, a flapper - defenses sit deeper, and again invite pressure or cause issues with the possession game

Shot stopping is a given, its the first thing they should be good at - but there is so much besides in addition to that that is hugely important

And Vicario is weak in pretty much everything other than shot stopping

When it comes to shot stopping, I think he is excellent

I just think that if you are a goalkeeper then 'shot stopping' surely has to be the minimum requirement?

Saying a goalkeeper is a good shot stopper is a bit like saying a traffic warden is good at spotting parked cars.

Good goalkeepers, in 2026, must be able to catch the ball, control the ball and pass the ball, with both feet, under pressure.

Vicario is a very poor traffic warden.

In my opinion.

This guy for me is like Romero for a lot of others on here.

Something about him boils my blood no matter how good he can be in a one-off match.

Some of the theatrics on saves today were laughable. And he almost directly cost us a goal with his atrocious distribution.

Cant wait until he fucks off for good.

Tottenham is almost a relegation team, and you judge him with the criteria you'd use over a player from a team at the top of the table.
Except, he is playing behind the defense of a team close to relegation.

Statistically, he is doing much better than Spurs' position on the table.
He's one of the few bringing the team up, rather than down.

Not the right attitude for the leadership group either IMHO.

We so need a real clear out over the next few windows.

in the school playground he’d have been one of the last two picked, along with the fat big boned kid.

One of them would have been stuck in goal. I’m just not sure which one.

Think he will be one of the earlier positions the club try to improve over the summer.

Think Trafford would be a logical move given his situation at City snd him being home grown.

Would love us to look at Roeffs at Sunderland! Young and posses what we need in a keeper! Won’t be cheap, but he’d jump at the chance to move to a club the size of ours. Especially with a couple of other Dutch guys in the squad
The Brighton goalie is the one I'd go after...

But there are keepers out there who are specialists at all the other stuff and not actually that good at 'shot stopping' (we have one on our bench) and a lot of keepers are average at it.

Vicario is very good at that one part of the game which I think is by no means a given, otherwise people wouldn't keep banging on about it.

But yeah, I think he's bad enough at most of the other stuff that I'd be happy to move him on if we can find someone better.

On a small side note, I think his short passing game is actually a bit underrated - there are a lot of keepers worse than him at that - but his mid-long range passing is gash and he's shit at commanding his area and dealing with crosses.

I think a case could be made for Vicario, Porro and Romero being investigated for match fixing.

Spurs looked better against Man City when Romero was removed at half time and played some of the most fluid football I have seen us play this season before Romero's red against United.

Porro was absent from both of these games.

I am starting to think these players have clauses that they have to play if they are deemed to be fit.

Honestly, I don't care what you think I am.
If you want to be more mature and not argue ad hominem, we can talk.
If not, you can keep quoting me, waste your time, and be ignored.
We can't, you don't think he has any faults and claim he's one of the very best. You then seem to know nothing about the team you support goalkeeper.

So we can talk, but you would add nothing. So I'll ask again, why is an Inter fan on the Spurs board??
