If Harry hits 30 league goals this season, which is very doable at the rate he’s going, he will only be 47 goals off shearers record. That really puts into perspective how close he is

Those 17 goal seasons hurt his record a lot. One was obviously a big injury, but one he inflicted on himself. He could have got a lot closer, and look even more impressive compared to the likes of Shearer and Rooney.

Last season in particular, when his goal against Newcastle was the only one scored before Christmas I believe. He's probably be past Rooney if he had turned up first half of the season. Fucking City, Nuno and Charlie.

Please. Stop all this airbrushing of football history. Kane does not have a couple of years or so to beat the supposed record. Shearer of course is complicit. His record means nothing. James Peter Greaves is the highest scorer in TOP FLIGHT ENGLISH FOOTBALL. 357 goals. That is the target, not the Sky target that Shearer and the other liars adhere to, for obvious narcissistic reasons. Kane is way off, as was Shearer and neither could lace Jimmy’s boots.

Greaves was amazing, but 'not fit to lace his boots'?

Shut the fuck up.

Here's yer shoes.

In my view Kane is a better Striker than Shearer and Rooney. Kane is playing in league where the newly promoted teams can spend as much as the top clubs around Europe and for a team that was only briefly one of the top three sides in the country.

Rooney played the majority of his career at Utd whom were the best side in the country and made sure that continued throughout Ferguson’s reign. Shearer at Newcastle was in a side which constantly overspent and tried to surround him with the best players for the majority of his time there. Shearer was also at a Blackburn side which was heavily invested in by their chairman at the time.

I have followed Tottenham my whole life and all I can say that it has been a pleasure watching Kane these last 9-10 years. In my opinion Kane is the best player we have had while following Spurs. Maybe other players have been better than him at one thing or another but Kane has given everything he can for Spurs. Without Kane and Poch’s onfield success, Levy would not have been given the last push to build that stadium.

This all comes from someone who once questioned why we did not sell Kane because he did not look like he would be anything.

Why is his not the record then? Genuine question not trolling
The foundation of the Premier League changed that. Remember it is also a very different time in football where you were only allowed one sub. Footballers used to drink in the pub (the corner pin) with the fans after the game. Managers use to smoke on the touch line. The fact is football has changed, Jimmy Greaves was incredible player but no one knows what he would be like today especially with his vices.

Why do people keep talking about the 260 Shearer record? Shearer scored 283 goals ffs.

It's like football didn't exist before the PL. Whole generations brainwashed by this corporate re-branding bullshit. Does my head in.

If you include the Division 1 goals you may as well include every record before that. The game has become more commercial and has a bigger impact so you need to do the cut off some where and it is probably correct to do it when it became more commercialised.

It's selective though. They don't only count the league titles won in the Prem era by each club so why only count goals scored? Shearer is a good example as someone who straddled both versions of the top flight.

It is corporate branding nonsense, Shearer has scored 283 top flight goals, Jimmy has 357. Changing the brand and selling TV rights to SKY doesn't change any of that. They've just drummed it into everyone so much that we've all gone with it.

True, but where do you draw the line? In the first 3 seasons of the premier league there were 42 games a season. So shearer had an extra 12 games on Kane to score the goals.

And if we're counting that, what about the fact the lower half of the league was utter dross when Shearer played but nowadays is of a much higher quality, especially defensively, so Shearer had an easier time to score in? What about the sports science being far superior now that Kane benefits from and Shearer didn't? You could go on and on really.

I reckon Kane will beat the 283 goals anyway as long as he avoids major injury.

I don't feel you have to draw any line. PL goals mean sod all in reality and is an artificial cut off point. Mention it if you like, but in the same breath the other stats should be stated, especially in Shearer's case.

Shearer scored 283 goals in the top flight of English football that is what counts. The fact that it's barely mentioned is what I find incredible and quite galling.

I firmly believe if Kane stays fit and maintains his form, he'll get close to 300 top flight (or PL!) goals.
