Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Need to see a bit more of him.

But for him to make, since he's not
- quick
or
- a psychical beast

it is paramount that his first touch is impeccable if he is to make it, only then can he utilise his ability to bring others into the game, finishing etc. He is only 21 though, has a few more years before he reaches that make or break point. A lot of development can take place in that time. I reckon he'll score a decent amount this season.

Movement is key. If you are not quick it is paramount that you have a decent "footballing brain".

I know it is a weak example, but Eriksen is not quick, he just see's things, and has that great first touch you mentioned.

Kane does come across as a decent finisher, so couple that with some nice off the ball work and a solid 1st touch and you can be class.

A long way to go yet though.

That's kinda what he does all the time. Beats people, crosses and misses shots and through balls.
His crosses are pretty good, not his fault people haven't been finishing them. Before his injury in March he had created the most chances (23) without making an assist in the Premier League.

His shooting will improve, as it stands they're certainly not poor efforts, they're not miles wide, he usually hits them clean with power and is within a few feet. He's got the ability just needs more composure in matches.

Passing/through balls you're right, but a lot of that has been down to poor instruction, we were generally a mess under Sherwood (plus Townsend was just coming back from injury then) and under AVB it's like he was just told to be Bale. But it's also a myth that he doesn't have good passing his locker, quick examples from last season-

Some of those are very well disguised with shot feints etc, and that's just the ones on that vid. He got a nice assist the pre season game before last too. If Poch gets the best out of him we will have a great player.

Also at one point very early in the season he was Europe's most successful dribbler. If he didn't get injured he would have been up there near the end of the season.

And finally, Townsend really shouldn't come under your tiny dancer category. He might have shit heading stats but he's not a weakling, at times in the youth teams he bullied his way up with strength and speed. Did the same in the lower leagues which is no easy place. Also he's 5ft 11 lol.

I think he's a defeatist. I don't think he has the belief or the mentality to turn his stats into goals, assists and impact to general play.

You say he is 5 11 but Lennon has a better % for winning headers (and Lennon is the shortest player in the prem).

He's got the highest dribble rate at the club but he's the lowest scorer. He's got the highest chances created but he has the least assists.

I disagree with his crossing. I think it's terrible and always too late. He's predictable, his body shape tells the goal keeper or defender which direction everything is going and he's easily funneled into less dangerous areas.

It's heads up play that is is problem. He has the potential to have so much impact but it's always behind this frustrating loser bubble.

He starts ahead of Lennon and Soldado for me, but that's only crossing my fingers that it will click.

He needs a purple patch where everything goes right to get his confidence up. I also noticed that the more media he did after England, the worse his form was up until the injury.

He need to drop the bimbo Defoe style big brother slapper, the video game press junkets and all the trappings of came that stopped JJ, Defoe, Bentley etc from getting over the advantage line. IMO he's a harder worker than them but a new contract can make a player soft.

I'm rooting for him. But he needs to get his head up, play no look passing and crossing and dribble it into the net.

You could be describing Sheringham there, and he did alright...

Then again the game's changed from 20 years ago so not sure if he'd do as well nowadays?

Trying to rack my brain and think of a current Sheringham-esque player who delivers at the highest level..

Haven't read through the rest of the thread to see if anyone's mentioned him or not, but I see a lot of Sheringham in Danny Ings at Burnley. Very much looking forward to seeing how he fares in the Prem this upcoming season, regardless of what colors he'll don.

I thought he looked very good against Schalke. Made a lot of very intelligent runs and worked exceptionally hard for the team - similar to Soldado. He's young. He will improve. His finishing is already very very good, just look at his goal against Celtic. He's had a good preseason with the team and I think he'll be a more than capable option up front as we saw last season.

You don't understand. Forget the prem goals at the end of the season, forget the Celtic goal: He just played 45 and didn't score. Career over.

OMG CARLITO WAS FLAV ALL ALONG

Mate, you've had a shocker admit it.

Scenario one: as soon as you said it, you thought "fuck! did I really say that....in public! I'm such a tit!!"
Scenario two: you thought "if this comes off I'm going to bring this up and look a fucking genius, if it doesn't everyone will have forgotten anyway".

We'll let me tell you something my friend, the golden folder never forgets and your card is marked.

You better hope that Harry suddenly and miraculously turns into a half decent footballer....because I am here...watching.....waiting.

*will have forgotten by tomorrow*

Lol. Golden folder. I have a golden mental server farm.

If Kane is played regular with Ade with Eriksen and Lamela providing the creativity Kane will be massive IMO.

If he's played on and off alongside Loldado with Lennon and Townsend providing the derp alongside holtby or eriksen drowning because they are played too deep...we will be back to AVB Harry Kane.

I think Kane is a clumsy striker to be honest. A bit slow, poor first touch, and scared to shoot. I hope you're right.

Self praise is no praise at all, Andros. :pochserious:

Kane and Townsend are both good young players. They both need to learn what to do in every instant, making the right choice wherever they are on the pitch. This comes with experience, good coaching and an understanding of football. Often they make the incorrect judgement which lets them down and breaks down play. e.g. Kane will take players on??? Townsend will shoot whilst running off balance??
Some players have it and some don't? Lets hope they are not just journey men.

Good points in this post.

Our individual and collective decision making has been really poor for ages. Especially when to cross, shoot, pass long or short etc etc.

Whilst not a huge Redknapp fan, I would suggest that he (and more likely his coaches) did some solid work in improving decision making. Hopefully, Pochettino can do it again. Early signs are promising but time will tell.
