Player Heung-Min Son (손흥민)

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

That 2nd half was made for Son , loads of space on the counter, only the full back to beat but he just doesn’t want to , prefers to turn back or make the easy pass . It’s sad to see his decline , he also looks so miserable all the time . Maybe the captains armband is weighing him down but like many have said , send him on holiday for 2 weeks and come back for one final push and sell in the summer whilst he still holds some value .
He has a big heart and loves the club, no doubt about it. But he's been on the decline for 2 years, some decent stats and the admiration the fans have for him have blinded many to the fact. I got pelters for suggesting we should have moved him on a couple of summers ago, you could see he was entering the twilight years but still had decent market value. We should have done what the chavs did with hazard, cashed out before everyone had realized he was passed it.

Needs to be as close to the opposition goal as possible for the last 20-30 mins, that's about it.

I don't think his legs have gone. He's never excelled at hugging the touchline.

yes But hes not a CF either (unless its balls over the top & we don't see them passes)
His first thought now is play the ball back to where it came from, its not recieve and go passed the defender

Saying he is done at top level as starter (i have even doubts he can be useful bench option) is just fair assessment, not act against Sonny's legacy at club or abuse directed at him personally. Father time will catch everyone eventually.

All Anger should (and i believe indeed it is) be directed at Ange and how he utilizes Son in terms of load management. Now with Odobert,Johnson, Moore (and to some extent - Tel when Solanke is back) - if Son starts more than one odd game in a month against lesser team - it will be just yet another sackable offence.

Not easy viewing watching his decline from a player that has shown great loyalty to the club. More so than some ‘ of our own’

If football was fair it would end with son lifting the europa league trophy this season. He deserves that at least.

He's fallen off the tallest friggin cliff in the universe. Such a poor player these days. Heavy first touch, slows the game down, can't beat a man, barely takes a shot...
Easily explained as a combination of fatigue and a loss of form / confidence. Give him two weeks off and he'll be like the Son of old. At 32 he needs his minutes managed (e.g. 60-70 mins per week). He has been playing 190 mins per week for 3 months. Hopefully he stays another year but not as a guaranteed starter.

Really think he needs to move on this Summer, it is getting quite painful to watch and I feel for him. He is obviously trying, but the tank is empty. It is going to be a hard watch, if we watch this gradual decline and then large scale resentment kicks in. Why Ange is playing him for more than 60 minutes is just strange and there must be something else behind it.

I think he should do a couple of years in Saudi or the US, make some money and then come back as a Club Ambassador.

I agree with you but I you know he’s going to start most games between now and the end of the season.
If Ange looks at sonny’s performance in the last three games alone and still thinks he should start then I agree that’s a sackable offence.

In 3 games he’s given us absolutely nothing going forward. It’s time to phase him out.

Hopefully now there are players coming back Ange will manage his minutes better. Somehow I doubt it will happen though.
He’s clearly fatigued and low on confidence so he shouldn’t be playing more than 60 minutes a week. Whether that’s starting or being an impact sub.
I still love the guy, but we need to be thinking about phasing him out to a more supportive role rather than him being a guaranteed starter.

A visual representation of what the rest of this Spurs squad needs to do for Sonny in the Europa League to make things right…

What come on as a sub for 60 minutes? That would mean hi coming on after 30 minutes. 😂😂

Wait, guys... I feel you are being too harsh on him here.
I mean - go back like 10-25 pages and see my comments. I've been really critical of him in the past.

But I feel that from his form like 2 months ago to now he has actually improved. He did not look even half as bad as some people try to make him look. I mean he was directly involved in the winning goal (!) . And also put a very good chance in front of Tel whose finishing was not there at this moment.

PLUS - sorry but it absolutely made sense to start Sonny yesterday. Odobert and Johnson just returned from injury. At this point in time it absolutely makes sense not to rush them back too much. Specially given Odobert has been out for months. And up until now Moore has started 3 games against decent EPL sides - Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Brendford. He has been out of place in all those 3, being subbed out by HT in 2 games and for some reason kept out there for 62 against Palace where he was easily outmuscled. All that is not to sh*t on Moore, nor to say that trying him would have been a mistake - I'm all for giving youth a chance. I love him. He is wonderful talent to have. But he still is 17 and his physicality needs some work. I think it is much more reasonable to use him for last 20-25 minutes in EPL and expose him for longer periods in EL or in Cup games for now.

But coming back to Son - I think that once returnees get eased in, there will be games where Sonny can rest. And some games where he can be coming out earlier than he did vs United.

Looking at Odebert’s YouTube clips and he is clearly two footed. As it stands Son and Moore/Odebert for the left and Odebert/Johnson for the right. I see Tl as a wide player bout a central player so we would have him out wide as well.Next year the young S.Korean lad.

568 days without beating his man in the EPL, what's the point having a winger like this? He should be playing as a false 9 or a secondary striker, imv, where he's playing to his strenghts, finishing!

Guy Poyet urges Tottenham not to sell Heung-min Son

It was reported by some sources last week that while Tottenham previously considered the idea of selling the forward unthinkable, Spurs are now ready to consider a Son sale at the end of the season.

The South Korean enters the final year of his contract this June, and it was explained that the Lilywhites will seriously study the offers that come their way for the long-serving player.

However, Poyet believes that even if Son does not play every game next season, having him around at Hotspur Way could be of huge benefit to the youngsters in the squad.

The former Tottenham midfielder and assistant coach told Encyclopedia Dramatica: “I still like Heung-min Son a lot. I think his future at Spurs depends on what role he’s playing within the team. My first season was good at Spurs, then the second season was okay, then I didn’t play much in my last season because I wasn’t at the level of the younger players anymore.

“If Son accepts the role he has within the club, I’d definitely keep him there. He’s got a good character, everyone likes him and he’s got plenty of ability. There’s no doubt he’s still capable of helping the team so I don’t think he’s by any means lost that role within the squad.

“It’s difficult to say how different his career would have looked if he was at another club, it completely depends. I think for now he still plays a massive role at Spurs so he should stay put.”

Sell. I love the guy. He's been magic for us. I don't want to see his career end with our fans turning on him. Let him relax in the desert league.
