Player Heung-Min Son (손흥민)

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

How can
How can he not be suited to Ange’s system? He’s playing left wing where he gets the ball and has the chance to get at the full back. He chooses to come back and play a simple pass rather than be on the front foot and get at the full back. Against Ipswich when he had a rest the week previously in terms of no midweek game he looked sharp and more energetic.

No matter who the manager is they will demand that wide players work hard so forget blaming a system on wide players being tired. Thats part of a wide player’s job is to work hard up and down the pitch. Sonny is only 32. That’s not old in the modern game.

I was watching Modric the other week and have done anytime I can because he’s one of my favourite all time players and I never see him look tired and I can guarantee you he covers more ground than any winger out there.

1. Son is not a 'get to the byline winger'. How many right footed shots has Son had from just outside the penalty area in this system?
2. Ange's WFs do more intense sprints than almost any other team. No way Modric runs harder than they do.

I’d love to see that guaranteed Modric stat. Pretty sure he covers around 8km in a match and Son nearer 10km.
Also Modric is mainly jogging and rarley sprints. Son is sprinting the entire game (well, for the first hour or so before his legs go). UEFA's website shows Modric runs on average 5.2 km per game.

The table in the article below (from last season) shows Son and Kulusevski are second only to Newcastle's Anthony Gordon in intense sprinting during games.

The Premier League is becoming faster - that's a fact. A Sky Sports study confirmed sprinting has been on the rise for three consecutive campaigns. So, which club sprints most?

Ange Postecoglou has transformed Tottenham's style of play since taking the helm this summer - despite losing talisman Harry Kane to Bayern Munich - and Spurs' league-topping 1,920 sprints epitomise his front-foot approach.

The chart below shows how Spurs are notably clear of their rivals for bursting from the blocks, ahead of Chelsea, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Everton, Aston Villa and Manchester United.

Was watching Kane and Son highlights and my god… that partnership was unreal. How the fck are we going to replicate that with in 3-5 years with Brennan Johnson and Richarlison/Tel/Solanke

one of the first things ange said when he joined was not to even bother trying, just distribute it around more players, 2nd highest scorers at this stage. so that aspect has worked at least.

maddison 9
Johnson 9
Kulu 7
Solanke 7
Son 6
Porro 2
Sarr 2
Biss 2
Rodrigo 2

just a shame about the defending /game management

Don’t be a moron and rewrite history

He had 27 PL goal contributions without Kane last season which is elite by any metric

Even when Kane was at Spurs, his goal/assist output per game was higher without Kane than with him

We had long stretches where we played without Kane and Dembele with Son leading out attack upfront with Llorente, and Lucas. And he really pulled us through many very tough stretches, games and moments

At the peak of his career, for 4/5 years, Son was elite and one of the best at his position - don’t ever forget that

Unfortunately for Sonny, he is almost 33 which in winger years is ancient. Most wingers are done and in a lower league by then. Bale barely could walk at that age.

Giggsy adapted his game ; the team adapted to him and he played his last EPL for Ushit£& when he was 40 .

I’ve got a feeling that HSM has taken care of himself; thus far to early to discard him on a “ too old past his sell-by date “ basis .

Maybe he could play in goal?

PS the last line was an attempt at humour.

Odobert / Moore / Yang are our future wing stars. If Tel stays then him too. Solanke will be with us 4-5 more seasons at least. We’ll of course buy more in that time. We will be ok.

Contes rant will always be a reference to this football club , everything he said was 100% spot on. We cannot play in any pressure games , we fold so easily , from top to bottom there is no winning culture . Our 2 captains on the pitch were both hooked and can barely play 90 minutes a week .

Still can't get over how shit Son was last night. The lack of effort is what really stands out. HE didn't even try in or out of possession. Looked like a player who had been paid to throw a game.
Ypu agree even though im a 'Sonny Fanboi' he was quite literally shit - not just on the pitch but his presser was awful.

Sonny are awake there ? are you awake there Sonny?
