Player Heung-Min Son (손흥민)

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If he pushed whoever was managing, Son would've started today. Your statement makes no sense since he actually started on the bench.

And the fact that he was central to all our chance creation, together with Madders, is of course completely irrelevant.

These guys did more in 30 mins than all the other players combined.

He's been shit for the vast majority of the season.

And was continually played in spite of that shitness because of Levy (no doubt).

All you mediocrity cretins need to fuck off out my club.

Fucking corrosive.

He's been regularly shit this season, but I do feel for Sonny. Ange's setup is almost the antithesis of what he thrives on and really highlights his weaknesses.

I'd give him another year's extension and see what he can do under a new manager, albeit as a squad player. There are still goals there.

It is hard to evaluate Son because he's a player who excels on the counter on a team that doesn't counter attack often. It would be a surprise if he hadn't lost some of his skills as he's aged, but I think the bigger problem is that the system doesn't suit him.
It's not hard at all to evaluate Sonny at all either per game or over a season.

I witnessed Sonny's debut in person & it's weird to think that was 10 years ago but since his debut, he did get some criticism when he was first signed & especially after we came so close to winning the league in that game against Chelsea (a lot of fans & the media were hating on us for that). He Like Tel he came from the Bundesliga which is a VERY different league but I used to see him in that league & I heavily defended him at the time & his shut up all critics in his second season.

The thing is he has been one of our most consistent players until these last few seasons, to see the decline is saddening to me personally. The thing is some people forget he was playing nearly an entire season plus international with a hernia throughout 2023 -

"I thought a lot about whether I really needed to tell you this, but I actually suffered a lot throughout the season, so I endured it for 8-9 months, but it just didn't work out, so I ended up having surgery..."

This was under Conte btw...

People have short memories & are quick to blame Ange, Levy, etc people just want a narrative to stick to instead of taking into account factors that fall outside it - I do not, I take what the players/staff say themselves with an eye test on how they play.

It's not because of Levy please read this sometimes a narrative has more than just LEVYOUT / ANGEOUT :-

He played under Conte with a serious injury that he himself thought he could play on with.

Here's my response above as I keep repeating myself.

He does have another year's extension so hopefully he'll be back 100% :)

Losing Kane made a big difference as well.

The decline started after Ange took over.
At the beginning of last season, Son was still very good. But if you have an idiot in charge, it will also affect the individual players. Son isn't getting any younger but shame wasting his final years with 'Angeball' which is just a hyped up name for really dumb football.

Losing Kane
MateBall
Prob bit of an injury or niggle
Being made captain - its just not him and adds pressure
18 months older

I'm sure all of those have an effect. Age probably a minor factor, looks like he keeps himself pretty fit and I'm sure his diet is very good. His goal against Everton this season, he was really moving for that one

Has Sonny or his representatives Registered the term Sonenka ™®© yet after his Penalty technique yesterday??

EDIT:...well I thought it was funny!!

I think the "We need to look at ourselves" speech yesterday has as much to do with the players realising THEIR responsibilities...
as well as a subtle nod that they're not getting any guidance or advice from the touchline...?

As if they now know they're pretty much on their own out there!

:ange-blow: :ange-hmm: :angeshock: :ange-facepalm2: :ange-bored: :ange-bored2:  :sonpoint:

I don't enjoy watching that style of play most of the time. It seems like a slowed down version of the game. It takes away the counter, which can be fun to watch. Despite what we heard early on, there really aren't many quick breakouts from the buildup. I can understand why Postecoglou thinks it works, because he's had good results with it, but the system seems to have gotten to a league that can defend it. If he's a good manager he'll make modifications and continue being successful. If not, this is where it comes off the rails.

No it didn't - his decline was under Conte when he was playing with an undiagnosed hernia...

I've written a post about this because it's not just after Ange.

That narrative isn't true & was admitted by Sonny himself.

He must've recovered from it and when Ange took over, Son played well. He also scored a lot. Surely, the international break and Klinsmann playing him every minute of every game didn't help either, but it's also clear that under Ange, his strengths are not being utilized.

This Sonny is bad because of Ange narr

See here we go any excuse to blame Ange - he spent 9months in agony, had major surgery & no hasn't been the same since.

Did you watch last season that was the season after the surgery? He lost half a yard of pace & this season he's lost at least a yard - do you blame Pep Guardiola for the decline of KDB? His age is also a factor here. I understand coaching does come into it but Ange isn't every reason for Sonny's decline mah dude even you admit that Ange's first season he 'played well' so what has changed this season apart from him having little rest due to the injuries. Also you can just tell from his playing he's just lost his mentality which I'm afraid is the same for most of the team at the moment.

Also Utilize? in what way? as he's been pretty much playing in the same position since he started for the club - has the system changed since Ange season 2?

I'm not trying to 'be right' here I don't want Ange next season, I just know there's more to Sonny's decline then ANGE BAD YALL.

Admit playing well under Ange? Yes, initially and so was the rest of the team. We were at the top of the table after 10 games.
But the more influence Ange has had, the more we've turned into a bottom half club, which is exactly where we are now almost two full seasons into Ange.

Yes, I blame Ange for that and I don't think hernia makes you lose pace, once you've recovered.

Yes, age is a factor but he's not that old. He's fit and able enough to be pretty much our only player to not be injured. Even Kulu, much younger, is injured now. Son is our last man standing so I don't think his body is that bad. Rather the opposite actually.
