Ex-Spurs Player Heung-Min Son (손흥민)

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Why the heck did we persevere with Kane (and Eriksen) when we had Sonny capable of hitting the target like that?
Sonny didn’t wanna argue with them.

Every time he scores a free kick it just pissed me off that we didn't utilise his skill set even more when he was with us.

This is, in effect, the entirety of the point that people are obtuse about with when Kane was here.

You could look at a player that scored 30 in a season, but look past the goal contributions that are missed for every ball that isn't squared, every free-kick that is pummelled into the wall, and every penalty that could have been a tally mark for a different player.

If prime Son was taking the penalties/free-kicks, there's possibly some statistics to suggest he would have outshone Kane in the numbers.

Not to take anything away from Kane's superior finishing and passing. It's just an indication of how damaging to the team it can be if you have one player that has to play every game, has to take every penalty, has to take every free kick etc.
I think a similar example is when Cristiano Ronaldo went back to United. His numbers were impressive, but the entire team turned to shit.

Kane didn't always take free kicks though, Eriksen took a lot as well so did Porro and Maddison after Kane left.

It's more on Son for not stepping up and backing his own ability especially since he was the captain in his last 2 seasons.

Nonetheless, Kane scored with his first free-kick attempt in Nov 2014, but then took at least 53 subsequent ones without scoring. He only ever scored that one for us, and has only ever scored 2 in his entire career.

Son seems like a people pleaser, but someone should have been telling Harry that he should have been getting on the end of them, not pointlessly pretending he was any use behind the ball

I hear it, Son should have taken more when Kane was here but he definately should have put himself forward as club captain when he left, guy was way too humble.

Managers that don't take into account the 'finer details' yeah

Probably a bit more than that. As players have hinted towards, like Dier, it seemed like Ange manages like he's playing Football Manager mobile on his lunch break. Delegate all the boring stuff, don't bother with tactical training, just pick the team and slide the bar to gung-ho. Worst of it was constantly conceding from free kicks and him not even acknowledging it as a thing, never mind attempting to fix it.

As much as some people won't like it, it's night and day to have some semblance of this with our approach to throw ins and other dead ball movements so far.
