Performance How far away are we really from challenging the top 4 again ?

If we get those 4 signings right then maybe we can be a serious team again.

6: We have no proper defensive-minded midfielder. Bentancur/Biss not good enough. I don't know what Gray will become but he's not ready. I'd take Palhinha all day long. We need our modern day Sandro/Palacios.

10: Maddison is not the guy. Fairweather player. I'd want a younger, more dynamic 10 in to properly challenge for his place (and we need to end the "Kulu at 10" experiment).

Wings: Odobert/Tel/Moore/Yang might come good but none are ready to start for a top 4 side. Johnson and Son are not good enough. So we need two new wide starters (we have done for 2 years now).
Definitely the 6 and the 10 are the key positions to fill for me. Hopefully Gray can become the 6 with a full pre season training there. You are correct, Maddison is definitely not the answer at 10.

This season has made me question everything I thought I knew about football.

On paper, we've got some really good players. There are quite a few who obviously need to be moved on but on the whole, our squad looks significantly better than most of the teams in the Prem.

I feel like we're at where we're at because of poor management and injuries to key players pretty much all season.

We need someone with fresh ideas to bring some energy into the club and work with our promising young players. Like Poch did when he joined. There are obviously quite a few players who need moving on, Son being one of them (which will hurt because to me he's a club legend and was absolutely phenomenal in his prime), bring in the best players we can get our hands on to replace them, build on what we already have.

If we do that I reckon we'll be in the mix again. It's not all doom and gloom, I'm pretty positive about our football next season. I mean, it can't be any worse... surely...

Why do you care about Top 4?
The thrill of top four is that you have to win a lot of games throughout the season. With a lot of wins comes a lot of enjoyment for the fans.

Sure there is that tinge of disappointment that we haven't won anything but we can see how toxic everything becomes when we lose too many games in a season.

We definitely need to win a trophy soon to get a winning feeling back into the club.

We finished 5th last season with the same core squad as this season, so we could be back around top 4 next season with a couple of decent transfers next window.

Hopefully we can win EL, qualify for CL and we get to see Levy let the moths out of his wallet and go all out in the next transfer window with a couple of big signings.

Really? I would have thought it’s the opposite.

Not surprised at all we are where we are.

Small senior squad, youngsters playing more than internationals, a system that frequently leaves our defence out to dry, lack of a top class “in their prime” goalscorer and a team that was being pushed to physical limits every game.

Sherlock Holmes wouldn’t have too many issues figuring this season out.

I don't think it's nearly as far as people make out. We've scored a lot of goals, and had to put up with makeshift defences and a manager unable to adapt defensively.

We obviously need some new additions in the striker, #6 and fullback positions at the least, but I think this season is just a one off.

However, I'd be happy to have seasons where we might not finish top 4-6 if it meant we win silverware. Yes a club our size should be able to do both, but that hasn't been the case for a long time.

5th this year would have got us CL.

Would we "celebrate" it as much as Top 4 last season if we'd got CL football?

The reason we score a lot of goals is because the way we set up we over-commit going forward, leaving us open when we lose the ball, with too many players up field.
Setting the defence up with proper cover, would have large effect on our goal scoring also, so I find your summary to be quite a bit off reality

We just need a coach that can adapt his tactics during the game. PL is now way too competitive to go all out attack for 90 mins. You have to grind the odd result out.

Could do also with some more experience/propper leader types in the squad.

The answer is not far.

The teams who are way ahead of us have players we can't match in a system they work at their best in.

Right now it's that lot because they just have too much quality, more so I think than Liverpool. City, I don't think they have stand-out players aside from Haaland and Rodri, now that Walker and soon De Bruyne have departed.

Our biggest issue is that we have nobody who sits where the likes of Bale, Kane, and one or two others sat.

Most of the other clubs don't have players who are in that highest bracket, but probably have more who could be considered to be knocking on the door, albeit gently.

We aren't far but could be miles away.

The thing these two seasons has made me question is whether to continue financially supporting this bullshit club...

Oh I already answered it - FUKK NO, GET FUKKED, PISS OFF
