Exactly. Also, is upgrading midfield of Dier, Sissoko and Wanyama really hard?
Probably harder to make it worse.

This is a fair take but my take on that summer (actually started in the spring the season before) was that we needed big change and if we didn't Poch would get fired for his loyalty to underperforming or useless players. The run-in for 2017-18 was not very good. You could tell the squad was getting stale.Yes and no Scott. Yes I do believe and always have been that a good club is always pro-active but when we look at the pressing areas required now or will be in the future very few of those areas had genuine issues 18 months ago.
GK - Lloris was fine, he's just getting to the stage when we may have to consider something more long term. Impossible to replace him summer 2018 IMO
RB - Aurier was a year into his time with us. Difficult to say if he would come good but a year and a half extra tells me it won't work out long term, that's how it goes.
CB - Sanchez & Foyth were also a year into their time with us and sadly I don't see them taking their games onto levels where I'd regard them as mainstays, week in week out for the future. It happens but we did attempt to be pro-active and that's all we can really ask of the club.
DM - Dier hadn't had his health issues by then and whilst Wanyama did have an injury that he struggled with that season, it's difficult to know he would continue to struggle a further year and a half on etc.
LB - very well stocked with Rose not being on the decline and Davies still peak mid20s. Sessegnon was a smart buy as we phase Danny out, if anything just to see if Ryan could be a viable long term option.
AM - Eriksen was making noises that he'd be open to staying but I do get the feeling Grealish was being lined up ever to help with the Dembele burden or to long term replace Eriksen. The deal was there, we did everything right IMO it's just a massive takeover with Villa last minute gazumped us.
Backup FWD - We had Llorente and Lucas trying to develop his game.

When you look at the squad back then there really aren't many massive holes in it. Hindsight will tell us that we should have been ruthless in certain areas, probably most with Dembele having a year left on his deal but the reality is we had been proactive or at least tried to be, it's just the kids we hoped would crack it haven't taken their games to Adonis levels which, mixed with injuries and a genuine lack of form for players like Vertonghen, Aurier, Wanyama, Dier, Dele, Eriksen etc has battered us hard.
Do I think that the summer of 2018 could have been dealt with better? Yes I do 100% but I still stick by my belief that no players signed and money kept for future investment made more sense than seeing us blow our loads on players we didn't really fancy thus leaving us hamstrung for future windows. We gambled on a Grealish deal, spurned the likes of Maddison in favour of him and it didn't work out like windows do sometimes. We've given too many too long to come good which you need to sometimes it's just a shame we haven't seen a couple kick on at a time where others have regressed.
1-2 in that window perhaps but we didn't require major surgery like I see us requiring now.
Box to box but can play deep in a system.
He isn't a great but I do think he's probably better than Dier and if he's just to come in as part of a deal, add depth to central midfield (which is needed) until atleast the summer. So be it.
Not that i need to justify my actions to you but i have seen Seria A football enough (as evidenced by me saying Salah will be player of the season when Pool signed him and you stating he would be a massive flop ) to form an opinion on Vecino and he is not very good at all. In fact, he is poor and nowhere near the type of midfielder we need. Why are you pretending you have watched enough Inter Milan games down the years to have extensive knowledge of Vecino to the point you know full well he’s not good enough to improve our midfield?
Why are you trying to impress strange men online with your fake knowledge of footballers that you gained from a game?
If we end up getting roughly £15m out of this in the end I'd have absolutely no complaints. Present day that would be great value all things considered:
Da fuq is this shit? A fucking bargain!!!!! It's £1.3M too much

Genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if they were trying to buy the club again.
Good post. Don't know why but I still can't take a liking to grealish. He is the one that got away but I am not bothered. But I can't deny he has looked good so far. If villa do go down, we could go back in for him. I also am not convinced by Maddison but again, having a good season. Not sure why I haven't been hired as a scout with my success rate.Yes and no Scott. Whatever happens we know that we won’t have Kane, and the step down in quality to any striker we can sign in jan could be comparable not having a striker at all.Holy fuck I just realized something (I'm gonna sound like a idiot):
We are in the CL knock out stages facing the very best teams in Europe, where every win requires 110% and we won't even have a proper striker to play. Not a single one for all of those games.
I don't mind not having a striker and having to do a "Plan B type of game plan" against the Middlesboros or even Watfords of this world but damn not having a striker for those European nights sounds downright irresponsible.
I don’t believe you watch Serie A to the point you have seen enough of Inter Milan to form a conclusive opinion on Vecino. Not that i need to justify my actions to you but i have seen Seria A football enough (as evidenced by me saying Salah will be player of the season when Pool signed him and you stating he would be a massive flop ) to form an opinion on Vecino and he is not very good at all. I know it's shocking to you that some people actually enjoy football and try and watch as much as they can (seems you prefer spending your time starting cyber beefs and indulging in internet thugging) but it does happen.
City don't fuck about, I think they rather "bleed out" those wages to a bench warmer than have the ever littlest chance of helping a rivalCancelo has moved around quite a bit in recent years. I'm sure he'd like to go to a club where he can settle in and not have to battle with another top RB. We can offer that plus I'm sure working with Jose is appealing to him. I could definitely see him having interest in coming here but no clue if City is at all willing to sell to us.
It was in direct reference to Maghoma leaving but it was actually a shot at all the youth watchers that keep telling us that everyone of these kids can play yet we keep seeing no evidence of it. Tanganga gets on and takes his chance to show how it's done...even in a non-favored position.
