One of the worst parts of this team being in a nose dive with Poch at the controls is fans start to slag off players who aren’t part of the problem.
Winks is another player with a lot of upside being ruined by Poch. He’s not a #6. He never was and when he doesn’t play well the fans get angry with him.
That anger should be directed at Poch. It’s not too different than asking Sanchez to play RB. Part of being a good manager is putting your players in the best position to succeed. Yet Poch’s new gigantic ego rather prove to everyone things will be done his way.
Agree that it’s not good to see fans go after our players, and I certainly never slag them off, but what exactly is Winks? He’s not a six as he can’t defend. He’s not an attacking CM as he doesn’t link with our front three.
He is incredibly niche. If we had a great 6 and and 8 (which we may well have with Ndombele) then fair enough, he can link the two. But there’s a lot of players out there that can do that.
I personally think that for a player to be considered any more than good, he needs to be able to demonstrate a wider skill set. He flounders under pressure.

He's only just debuted for their first team this season so the jury is still out on him.

Well no wonder our squad is in the state it is with those two combining to make the decisions.
Soumare for me out of those two. Sangare is a bit too Sissokoish for me with his control. He just seems to always be stretching for the ball when attempting to wiggle out of pressure and that pressure will only get worse in the PL.
Soumare reminds me a bit of Diawara, but with much more drive. They both have great control and dribbling abilities though. Would love Soumare here.
You'd prefer it if we routinely signed players with known attitude/behavioural issues?
