That seems like a very limiting decision if that is truly the case. Loans with options to buy are generally good business with younger players, but 22+ you really should be looking to buy outright, especially those with multiple senior seasons under the belt in the top 5 leagues (Ndombele)

Agree.

I just think that Levy is likely saying to himself 'I don't care if it costs a little more, but I don't want to be in the same situation where I have driftwood in the squad, and I can't get rid of it'.

It also helps with manager changes. Would not be in the least surprised if Lo Celso's loan gets cancelled. We will miss out on the compulsion clause and we may well cut our losses.

But all the big players will need to be purchased outright. If you have an asset like Bruno Fernandes, why allow a club like Spurs to loan him and whittle down his value?

There's no downside to buying Lo Celso for Levy though. Ignoring the football completely, he will make his money back on Lo Celso even if we sell him this summer.

Well, probably not if he either wasn't to play, or did play and was rubbish... you'd just have clubs low balling us if they were interested.

Hopefully neither come to pass, we sign him and he goes on to star for us.......

... before running down his contract and slinking off to Inter Milan...
 
How good is the portuguese league? I'm just wondering why Skipp is deemed not ready yet but Mendes is deemed ready to come into the first team squad.

Jose will start playing GLC a lot more even if Eriksen stays and runs his deal down. He just didn't know enough about him when he came in same as Ndombele. And Lamela had fitness issues and needs to be upgraded on for it but a 50 million players isn't the type of money to spend on upgrading your backup CAM if he was an out and out winger yes as he could take Mouras spot and GLC, Ali's
 
There is a balance on discussion that we need to ensure but from where we were 2 years ago, the manager at the time, the stated ambitions and the 3/4 players of quality to pressurise, push and improve to now is quite a reality check.

Teams around us and some below just seem to have deeper pockets.

Just in perceptive terms we are dropping off a bit.

Mouurinho at his mercurial and youthful best would not have got this squad into the top 2. Not even sure the top 3 or 4.
