Wanyama is our Bale – high wages that no possible suitor can and wants to afford. Happens at every level. He's been getting a decent wage and doesn't feel like a pay cut. He'll train and be avilable for selection. He is keeping his head down and not making any noise to the media. It happens, players get injured and go out of form, not a lot we can do.

Club Bruges were offering him circa £65k pw wages in the summer and after agreeing that in principle the only thing missing from the deal was his signature on the contract.

It was his attitude over that deal that led Poch to give him an earful in an interview accusing him of treating Spurs as a charity over his continued employment

So Wanyama has had options to go at no perceptible pay cut, just hasn't taken them

Yup his 'mate' recruited fir Southampton...….but apparently not sorry to see him go so as to get

He had a huge amount of influence on transfers - compare that with Liverpool (currently the best at transfers in PL as well as top of the table) whos have a DoF and Analytics team (ironically both hired from Spurs) who make all transfer decisions - to the extent that Klopp is on record as saying he didn't want Salah but DoF bought him anyway. Think Klop p is pleased he has a DoF now.

The days when any manager had total control over transfers are long gone - but Poch had far more control over transfers and loans for younger players etc than probably more any other PL manager.

Wish we had recruited the Head of Recruitment/DoF and an analytics team back in 2018, as I doubt if our squad would have been in the current state that it is.
The longer Poch stayed the more influence he had but Levy is the defacto DOF, I don't think he wanted Sissoko or going back earlier Stambouli or Fazio. The right DOF is a tremendous help, the wrong one is a hindrance. Also there is no point in recruiting a DOF if he has no power.

Belgian league is a dead league, I can see why he wouldn't want to play there.

Don't agree - particularly over the period from about 2017 - 2019 when Levy had his hands very full with the stadium problems.

Apart from Levy being a fairly early champion of the DoF system in PL #, in that 2017-19 time period he just didn't have the time he had previously had to deal with transfers, so with Poch implied threat to leave if a Dof were appointed, Poch took over more and more power.

Coaching and buying players requite two totally different skill sets and whilst I've nothing but admiration for Poch coaching (except sometimes timing of subs etc), I saw no evidencde that he was good at selecting players to buy, putting together a development strategy for youth players (probably including loans) etc.

BTW, I absolutely do think that Sissoko was Poch's choice - certainly would not have been Levy's choice to spend £30m (then equalling our highest transfer fee) on a 27 year old where there would never be any resale value. Levy would probably have found a cheaper midfield player or suggested buying 3 good younger players such as Maddison, Grealish and Brooks for the same money.
My guess is that Poch saw Sissoko's strenth and powerful running as key to replacing Dembele and thought he could coach Sissoko into that role.

Yeah but Celtic are one of the biggest teams in the UK.
Club Brügge are the biggest team in Belgium and regularly win their domestic titles and are CL regulars. It's also a country he played in previously and spoke warmly of.

IMO pretty even stevens regarding Brügge and Celtic. I'd argue that his knees would probably hold up to the Belgian style better than the Scottish one.

I'm not saying he was good at selecting players either but Levy did appoint him, so he should back his decisions. I think Sissoko was a desperation signing, he was offered and Poch just accepted because he thought it was better then nothing at all.

Levy offered 3m and Onomah for Grealish who I think is overrated anyway.

Brugges average attendance is 27,000, Celtic is 57,000 and also former European cup champions.
