No, Porro does though. Which was what the poster was complaining about, the fact we're haggling over a player with a reasonable release clause.

If he did, they'd pay it. We wouldn't.
If we get Porro for his release clause but spread it out over a longer period, that's fine by me. I think we will get him- delays are just so Sporting ensure Porro plays the cup final which is fair enough.

Problem is no movement on CCB or GK.

It looked more like the poster was complaining that Woolwich would be spending 60m on a player whilst we're not willing to spend 45m upfront. Despite the deals being structured completely differently.

Woolwich signed Partey on deadline day. Why didn't they just get it done at the beginning of the window?

Tried haggling did they?

I think there are a lot of players who would be moved on before Sanchez.

We have 6 players out on loan that could drop back onto the wage bill in the summer for example, only Udogie has any chance of playing for us while Conte is manager.

Finding somewhere for Rodon, Ndombele, Reguilon, Winks and Lo Celso to continue their careers is something that someone at the club should be working hard on.

We should've paid the release clause on the day the transfer window opened and had the deal done. That's what the other top 4 competitors would've done. We could even have a few more points, or at the very least he'd be more settled and ready to help us. It would've been a great shot in the arm during a difficult period.

Instead we've dragged it out to stagger the payments, even though we're a very rich club with no FFP concerns and 40m upfront is a very basic payment for a team of our level to make.

Of course we'll get him. There's no one out there who seriously thinks this isn't going through, unless for some odd reason they want it to fail as an almost "told you so" sort of statement.

With half an hour of the window to go. After trying to negotiate a lower fee. After spending the entire window chasing Aouar.

But only Levy fucks about. Everyone else “just pays the fucking money”.

They weren't negotiating a lower fee, they were freeing up space/wages in their squad so desperately trying to get players out of the door. As soon as Guendouzi was moved out they pretty much immediately paid the Partey fee.

I think we should have started negotiations in December so that we could have come to a suitable deal in early January.
I do think it was worth the extra negotiation to stagger the payments, if that can help us afford more players in this Jan window.

This.

People bending over backwards to defend Levy and resorting to rewriting history to do it.

FIRST we tried to lowball them and wasted 2 weeks trying to pay 25m and send them some shit players the other way.

After they obviously refused we then agreed to pay the full amount but we want the payments staggered.

A competent negotiator does this all ahead of time and the deal is made on Jan 1st.

Amazing people are defending this.

The articles I recall reading at the time say they did try to negotiate. And it’s doubtful they waited until the window was minutes from closing to make their first and only offer (the entire release clause). Even if they did, that’s horrendous financial management.

However, none of us knew what went down, we can only assume.

Fucking hell…..

Is the trial coming to fruition for Partey?

How is it fair enough that he gets to play in sporting a league cup final, what if he gets injured and messes up the whole deal?

He’s clearly been our number 1 target all window, he should have been playing for us by now instead of us haggling over instalments, just pay the release clause it’s not even that much.

Sell! Sell! Whilst hardly alone the thought of moving on Sanchez and Moura signifies that we're finally starting to sort the mess out of the last few years. Cant knock their effort but just not very good footballers who have been here way too long. The Hitchen legacy.

I agree. He did well the start of the season but ALWAYS has a mistake in him and always has. Let him continue to make them for someone else. He should go to Spain or Germany where I bet he will look good but the PL is just too much for him. Too much pressure.
