You like using Liverpool's recruitment as the yardstick. Have a look at their transfer dealings between 2015 and 2019. Each season, 2 expensive signings, with a bunch of cheap punts. They got VVD and Salah after they sold Coutinho. Essentially it took them 3 seasons of squad building, along with selling their best player, before they finally won the league.
So far, our model appears to be very similar. Couple of high end players (no I'm not saying elite), with astute buys of very high potential.
