Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Come on... Where do you think we are at the moment. We don't spend money fact. If we end up with Werner, he was prolific at one point and maybe Ange can get the best out of him. Let's face it, every thing Chelkski have touched has turned to rat shit, Mudryk, Jackson, Caicedo, Cucarella, Nkunku, Sterling... And that's before I start dropping names. I prefer Guirassy for 15m, but we are we are, don't start counting off Ange coz he's the Don mate. Where we are without the best striker in the world is a fucking miracle.... Let Ange do he's stuff and see where we are end of season. I'm just happy we are playing decent football and sitting where we are in the table at the moment.
Guirassy Orban a few others may be who have scored some goals. However let’s give him a chance if he still has pace then we need that upfront. All 3 yday slowed the game down and never wanted use any pace they have. Only joy was long balls from the back for Johnson but his too weak.

You want the cherries but the cake is still in the oven, chill.

On your list most of the players you mentioned weren't bought for the managers until latter windows, we're still reshaping the squad.

That shit you want to happen is more likely to come in Summer windows, just generally better to do business, more money going around, more teams open to selling etc...

And I agree! Not now but it has to happen at the right moment.

The latest example was poch when on cusp of history. Now we build for the next opportunity.

I didn't say we demand them now.

I actually liked a post with werner signing tweet. Think it's a reasonable risk.

I just think its premature to say that the manager is being backed because we've signed a player from leipzig on loan for six months.

Thats what started this whole thread.
Right, unless Werner is a good CB I don't think a lot has changed.

We’re 1 point away from top 4 & 6 off of the top of the table. Why can’t Levy & this board break the habit of the last 23yrs & just back the manager properly when it’s needed rather than leave us short once again.
It absolutely does my head in. You’d think he’d learn after the same mistakes he’s made over & over again but no, it looks like he’s going to be rinse & repeat as usual.
Ffs this 100%.
These stupid loans for average players never works. If jota has quality then why not get him? Or make proper bids say for the forward guirassy or whatever his nzz as me is. At least his in form and playing. I’m sure he’d better than any of our forwards.

He did shit at Chelsea and we all laughed. Hard to be excited about this signing. Still might be an upgrade on Richarlison, can't be a much worse finisher.

I can't really remember his game, is he quite quick? That'd be something, the amount of potential counter attacks that break down because our forwards are too slow to go past their opponent.

He's scoring around one goal every four games, (as a winger).

He's not going to play in a central forward role, so comparing him to Richy would be a mistake. He would however be a good option on the left or right and (on average) scores more goals than Johnson or Kulu (so far) this season?

We would have Werner, Son, Kulu, Solomon, Gil and Johnson who can fill two positions. That's some options and cover for Ange.

A good rotation if we make Europe next season.

Because Kulu, Porro and Bentancur as loans with options were such a waste?

Perhaps we looked at players who wouldn't enjoy a rotation role?

Perhaps it was the month of January and we are fucked through injuries and International duty that we decided t make a no risk transfer?

We have picked up quite a large wage with signing Werner but it's a loan, and are about to buy a CB during the toughest of the two transfer windows.

But hey, let's play football manager and plug holes with dream players, just like Man United and Chelsea have.

What a rip-roaring success that has been.

So going back to Shady Dan's original post that started this, is the manager really being backed because we sign werner on loan for 6 months?

Is that where we set the bar?

It's important you use context in a debate, this is what kicked off the discussion about backing:

We’re 1 point away from top 4 & 6 off of the top of the table. Why can’t Levy & this board break the habit of the last 23yrs & just back the manager properly when it’s needed rather than leave us short once again.

And I said Werner was an Ange pick therefore by definition he is being backed.

I'll be real being backed is a bit of a nonsense term though because no-one really knows what the manager wants so we just need to use a bit of critical thinking and common sense and look at these signings to see what fits and see if they make sense and probably just start to trust the club a bit more and just wait and see if the player does well or not - it's pointless going back to Poch's years and things that happened under Levy's watch back then, you're just much better off looking at the evidence of what's happened in the last couple of years.

Because I remember he did badly at Chelsea, just not much else.
If you actually look at his scoring record it’s not too bad at Chelsea for someone who didn’t play as striker all the time. I think he’s a 1 goal in 3 games player which could be very good in our team as our goals are spread through the team. When we get madders back that 1 in 3 might improve.
I’m actually quite excited about the thought of madders threading passes in behind for him .

Can no-one in here see my point that we are inclined to get a squad only so far but then ultimately leave it short by not putting a few cherries on the cake?

This is the difference between us and big teams
You're absolutely right. Our trophy record proves that. There can't be any argument.
Whoever the manager, we always come up short.
.. How come?
Teams witha desire to win don't sell Harry Kane for £100million and replace him a few months later with a knock off loan deal for a striker flopping in the Bundesliga

Probably. I wasn't suggesting that we intended to buy him, I was just answering the suggestion that we wouldn't pay that sort of money. We already have done, multiple times, yet the tired old "we won't pay that money" gets trotted out every time.

I'm not sure where this idea that we won't pay £20M for Dragusin comes from. The more reliable Tweeters are saying that we're just finalising the payment structure.

You know how Paratici operates, lots of smoke and mirrors.

Yeah there is loads of BS out there about deals every time.

If I'm guessing they had stiffer competition for Werner so shifted focus onto getting that done.

Now they will go back and finish Dragusin by Monday. I get the feeling they want both training all week ahead of UTD.
