????? ......I don't get it.
Something… something… Barry Venison?!

He’s a very good player. But seems like a bit of a twat. Not sure I could take to him even if he were our twat.
Yeah, I'm not super fond of the stuff I've seen of him as a person. Gambling, party lifestyle, badmouthing his club and obviously a gooner.

However, the striker market is utterly hopeless, and maybe he could be like Maddison, and his twattiness is overstated.

Fair enough on Toney, hope we get someone in though. If Son as ST is the plan going forward, I hope we get an exciting LW.

Its a no from me for Toney. Do not want him at all.

We're struggling to get rid of players we have now with questionable character. Why bring in another?
Aside from being dodgy, there’s things like this too, slagging off his own club. He clearly has no concept of respect, very little brain and is simply a very materialistic self-interested prat.

Belongs at somewhere like West Brom.

Edit: obvs he’s actually quite true about the place - lovely bit of the M4 as it is.

Likely squad until January :

GK -Vicario/Forster/Austin
RB - Porro/Royal
CB - Romero/VDV/Sanchez/Dier
LB - Udogie/Davies/Sessegnon
CM1 - Bissouma/Hojbjerg
CM2 - Sarr/Skipp/Bentancur
CM3 - Maddison/Lo Celso
RW - Kulusevski/Johnson
LW - Son/Perisic/Solomon/Gil
CF - Richarlison (Veliz)

(17 overseas trained, 2 Club trained, 4 'Other HG', 3 u21's )

Left out - Lloris, Whiteman, Ndombele

FYI Contracts expiring in June 2024
- Lloris, Dier, Sanchez, Perisic, Forster
The first 4 could sign pre-contracts with non UK clubs in January for 24/26 season, unclear whether their new clubs would want to take them early

Both Tosin (Fulham) and Lloyd Kelly (Bournemouth) are HG CB's whose contracts end in June 2024. Tosin still keen on being no 1 CB at Monaco, but both could still be targets.

Spurs agreed a higher fee with Fulham

The obvious position to try to strengthen is CB, particularly if Dier or Sanchez move on, otherwise any other incoming would be opportunistic if a player came on the market.

Great post.
The CB reserve problem is complex.
Hopefully it can get a little less so this window.

January

Out: PEH, Sánchez, maybe GLC
In: Gallagher, decent young rotation CB

Summer

Out: Davies, Sessegnon, Perisic, Forster, all those retuning from loan
In: backup GK who can play the ball, backup LB who fits the system, and then go all in on the best attacker you can convince to come spending up to £100m if necessary

We’re really not far from being a competitor. A couple of targeted depth purchases at CB, midfield, LB, and then just one absolutely elite attacking player.

SPURS 2023/2024 SQUAD.

HG Player
(8 max), International Player (17 max), U-21s (unlimited).

GK: Vicario Forster, Austin, Whiteman (INJ)
LB:
Udogie, Davies, Sessegnon (INJ)
CB:
Romero, Van de Ven, Sanchez, Phillips
RB: Porro, Royal
CM1 (#6): Bissouma, Højbjerg, Skipp
CM2 (#8):
Bentancur, Sarr, Lo Celso
CM3 (#10): Maddison, Ndombele
LW: Solomon, Perisic, Bryan Gil (INJ)
RW: Johnson, Kulusevski
CF: Son, Richarlison, Veliz

OUT/ALTERNATES: Lloris, Dier

I actually quite like Porro and Royal. Still, if Ange has lost faith in Royal, I feel like Kyle Walker-Peters would excel in Ange's system. Club trained HG being a bonus.

Slight but important correction, under PL rules HG are unlimited but minimum 8 (and maximum 17 overseas trained players) to get a full 25 man squad of over 21 players.

And unlimited u21 players

NB.
Under UEFA rules its a :
- maximum of 17 overseas trained players
- Minimum of 8 locally trained players (ie HG) including a minimum of 4 Club trained players
- Unlimited u21 players, but definition of u21 player includes a minimum of 2 years at Spurs otherwise player is HG or overseas trained.

What does everyone make of Ivan Toney as a Jan target? We could pull off another Maddison, Biss type steal. We all know his qualities.

The big question is, is he a person of poor morals and judgement? Or just a bit thick, and there's nothing to worry about?
It didn't work with David Raya and certainly not with Toney. £70m has been quoted as his price and I don't consider that necessary a steal.
Besides, as you mentioned, there are questions about his personality, yes.

Ignoring the second part of your question. I guess it depends on what you consider a steal. He’ll have two years left on his deal, and I doubt Brentford will sell for cheap.

Toney to me just screams going back to Newcastle at the first opportunity and big contract offered to operate as the back up.

Tapsoba had 3 years left on contract in summer and his club didn't want to sell and he was in no position to push so always unlikely ...... but looks like further out of reach in January !

Tapsoba would have cost 60m probably. Never happening.

Hopefully they find a homegrown option for the versatile third CP spot then they can be more creative than Gallagher for the Hojberg replacement.

I get that Ange rates him but maybe by January that interest will have cooled if he keeps playing like he is for Poch.
