Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

What does everyone make of Ivan Toney as a Jan target? We could pull off another Maddison, Biss type steal. We all know his qualities.

The big question is, is he a person of poor morals and judgement? Or just a bit thick, and there's nothing to worry about?

Nope.

Seeing Son with a bit of pace running in behind, I'd prefer to use Johnson as a #9 than spend any money of Brentford.

We got very lucky they didn't accept an offer for Raya, otherwise we might not have got Vicario. I'd rather get lucky by not giving them any money for Toney either.

Rico Henry is the only player I'd want from Brentford and long term, a LB rotation of Udogie/Henry would be amongst the best in Europe.

I guess it will be time to try to sell Richarlison in January. I don't know if we will have a need to get someone in. Maybe Son, Veliz is enough. But by January I'm sure we will know.

Tapsoba would have cost 60m probably. Never happening.

Hopefully they find a homegrown option for the versatile third CP spot then they can be more creative than Gallagher for the Hojberg replacement.

I get that Ange rates him but maybe by January that interest will have cooled if he keeps playing like he is for Poch.
I wonder if we were even serious about Gallagher? He started on Saturday.

It didn't work with David Raya and certainly not with Toney. £70m has been quoted as his price and I don't consider that necessary a steal.
Besides, as you mentioned, there are questions about his personality, yes.

I accept what people are saying about not going for him on the basis of his character, but I think Brentford might have learned their lesson after Raya,

They tried to fleece us for £40m and instead he's gone to the gooners on loan.

I think January is a time to look and see if there are any opportunistic purchases that we might want to make - although I'm sure there will be a plan to buy a CB if the right quality player become available.

But equally we might be able to find buyers for a couple of our unwanted players just because other clubs are desperate for players in certain positions.

just hope we can marry the sales and purchases up - unless its someone like Ndombele when any sale welcome !

Phillips and Dorrington. We could be in danger of blocking players like these pathway by signing X

I'm not saying these two are the answer but to me, our "FANTASTIC FACILITIES" don't seem to be being utilised enough? Take Santiago as another example, Scarlett... Even Veliz (Vilez?)

Buying players is great and all, but we really ought to be well, you know

Likely squad until January (Updated for Sanchez & Ndomble exits) :

GK -Vicario/Forster/Austin
RB - Porro/Royal
CB - Romero/VDV/Phillips/Dier
LB - Udogie/Davies/Sessegnon
CM1 - Bissouma/Hojbjerg
CM2 - Sarr/Skipp/Bentancur
CM3 - Maddison/Lo Celso
RW - Kulusevski/Johnson
LW - Son/Perisic/Solomon/Gil
CF - Richarlison (Veliz)

(16 overseas trained, 2 Club trained, 4 'Other HG', 4 u21's ) - 26 players

Left out - Lloris, Whiteman

I think we only go for a striker in Jan if an unmissable opportunity pops up, or we're in a great position to do something, and act on it.

Centre back should be #1 priority in Jan.

Between now and the end of the summer transfer window 2024 a major task should be to sell the follow players (unless some of them have some remarkable improvement playing wise).
And, apart from Højbjerg and partly Forster, Lo Celso & Perisic, the rest of the players will either just a get a few minutes (maybe Sessegnon) or not be even part of Spurs' EPL squad, so seeing them leave won't leave any big "holes" behind in the squad (of course, Spurs would need to replace any outgoing goalkeeper).
That's 17 players...

Hugo Lloris
Ryan Sessegnon
Sergio Reguilon
Eric Dier
Joe Rodon
Pierre Højbjerg
Tungay Ndombele
Gio Lo Celso
Ivan Perišić

Maybes
Brendan Austin
Alfie Whiteman
Fraser Forster
Emerson Royal
Djed Spence
Japhet Tanganga
Troy Parrott
Bryan Gil

Yeah, there's got to be more of a pipeline from the academy to the first team or sold for a tidy sum, the way chavs and citeh do.

There has; but the level of talent needs to be elevated before the Chavs/ManC model comes into play........... BUT let's not forget that both clubs are essentially paying for that privilege to begin with.... And in the Chavs case illegally so (see the reasons for their last trf ban).

That would be the obvious sensible thing to do whilst his stock is still relatively high, but I just highly doubt we'll do it, we always seem to hold on too long in these sort of situations.

I agree somewhat. I think right now we are in a position where the talent needs to be up to scratch to get game time, but the last 5 years we had absolute donkeys like Dier, Sanchez, Sessegnon, Reguilon and so many others starting week in week out, we could have easily given more debuts to academy players.

At least that way we can quickly filter out the Tangagas in the system and try to find gems. Probably wouldn't have lost young players like madueke, and attracted more youngsters like Devine.
