I agree somewhat. I think right now we are in a position where the talent needs to be up to scratch to get game time, but the last 5 years we had absolute donkeys like Dier, Sanchez, Sessegnon, Reguilon and so many others starting week in week out, we could have easily given more debuts to academy players.
At least that way we can quickly filter out the Tangagas in the system and try to find gems. Probably wouldn't have lost young players like madueke, and attracted more youngsters like Devine.
You're talking about pathway here... And like I already said; I agree.
If we're talking about the levels and lucrative re-sale aspects of things then see prev. post.
We had a superb crop that came into bloom around 2012-15 (netted us 100m+ on old money + Kane, Winks, Skipp)....... Now, yes there was a changing of the guard in terms of McDermott & Sherwood's exits and Poch swiftly changing tact on youth/loans/pathway; but if you track the age-spans of the aforementioned players vs. when the Chavs & City started plowing big money into their academies, recruiting kids and dominating the youth talent pool there's an undercurrent to the fall-off which is not coincidental.
