Not the point.

Can deals get done? Yes

Can excuses also get made because January is difficult? Also yes

If you want to have a basic debate then be my guest but it's better to use contextual analysis, that's how you move the debate on.

Of course deals can get done before Jan, I literally pointed out things could happen in extenuating circumstances like overpaying for example (do you want us to do that?) or perhaps do what Liverpool did and setup a deal and then miss out only to sign a player again in Jan (would it make you feel better if that happened?)

But these are all outliers, what you're doing is arguing the exception which doesn't prove the rule.

Sure, there are 101 reasons why you don't win trophies as well.
How on earth is that a response in any way to my post? :/

For god sake once in your life accept that other people have valid points that contradict your starting narrative and adapt accordingly. I don't care when the numerous idiots on here do it as they're not capable of better, but you post lots of useful well-thought-through insightful stuff, yet you seem to have this total block when it comes to recognising a valid point somebody else makes and altering your view accordingly. You're better than that. Well you should be. :/

Sanchez being sold is irrelevant. he wasn't an adequate option at CB so it doesn't matter when we sold him.

We needed third choice CB.

I mean it's highly relevant if you're going to use the argument that we are short in the CB area.

2 things can be true by the way, we definitely needed another CB in for the Summer but we could have definitely done with keeping Sanchez at the club.

The same club who had agreed deals for Caicedo and Lavia this Summer who both went to Chelsea in the end, yeah imagine the meltdown in here if that happened, what an example

Ironic you bought that up because Southampton reported Liverpool for tapping him up, they were after him in the Summer and missed out on him (again imagine the meltdown if that happened to us) so it got pushed to Jan

Nice try though.
That's a reach

Liverpool agreed a deal to sign Van Dijk on 27th of December.

Considering the situation we currently have at CB, not acting in a similarly urgent manner shows the difference in a nutshell between the way the two clubs are run.

You’re forgetting all the drama that went on during the prior summer where Pool were accused of tapping him up.

Pool were embarrassed and forced to pay a world record fee for a CB.

I don't pretend to be better than anything mate. If you see me as better than that, then fair play.

What is the valid point you are hoping I can accept?

That it's difficult to get deals done in January? Or that the difficulty to get deals done in January is a valid excuse for not having a 3rd CB in time for Burnley?

Both could be true and yes we can also beat Burnley at home without a 3rd CB.

Does that work for you?

I guess so, yes. :)

My point was that you had said "the question is if it's possible or been done before", but that's simply not true, it's disingenuous, no one had asked that, everyone was aware that in very rare cases some such deals have happened, but most people are also aware that there are many factors causing such rapid deals to not happen, as can be proven by the fact that 99% (or whatever) of transfers take longer for all clubs.

It's humble of you to say that you don't see yourself as any better than the neanderthals on here, but you definitely are in my opinion, that's the only reason I find it frustrating when you either can't see other views, or deliberately make statements like the one above which are just totally untrue / misleading to onscure or play down other views.

I'm sort of paying you a backhanded compliment I think - I honestly believe you are 'better', certainly intellectually and football-wise, than your 'debating style' sometimes suggests! Take that as you wish! 😂

:angehug:

What does that matter.

Him being injured is inherent part of him. You are just denying it, but that thing here IS the very context you talk about. You can force your eyes shut as much as you want, it does not change the fact that his whole spell with us has been full of injuries.

Availability is important part of ability.
Even with his injuries he still has averaged more than around 25 games a season which is decent for a squad player of his ability to have around.
