Transfers January Transfer Thread 24/25

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Look what Daniel has done to us...

:levywtf:

Sadly most transfer windows have a lot of time where nothing happens - only exception I can remember was when Frank Arnesen brought in about 2 dozen players, half for a development squad and half for first team

Frankie's 'funday' Fridays were well named - except some player arrived on other days of the week.

Trying to keep up with the flow of players in and trying to work out what kind of team we might field was a full time job ..... and even then I don't think anyone got the team even half right ! And even the manager changed within 2 months .... but enter Martin Jol who still has the biggest increase in points season upon season of any recent manager after fitting together a decent team from the long list of new players, got us to 5th place twice (our highest position for 20 years - and could have been 4th place but for Lasagnegate) as well as back into europe.

Agree .... But you seemed quite convinced you that did a couple of posts ago.

Here’s what I fucking know is true:

We cut our wages by 35m selling senior players for youngsters who needed to be bedded in slowly.

We stayed in 4 competitions and the load on the squad meant we ended up short, tired, and eventually injured.

Those injuries compounded as we stayed in 4 competitions because the fans want trophies.

We’ve had an injury crisis since November but instead of acting early in the window, we acted like a club in financial troubles and scrambled around until the last days of the window looking for bargains.

Now we’re in the position the media are eating their fill on every failed transfer and every new crisis that comes our way.

This is self inflicted

I would have likely declared as a travelling troubadour. Armed with my trusty lute, I would delight Earls and Barons with my intoxicating songs of heroism and sacrifice in exchange for a few pennies and mug of mead!

As an aside, reading The Pillars of Earth at the moment. Throughly recommended. An enjoyable saga.
I am currently re-reading Legend by David Gemmell. It's a clunky but fun book and the clunkiness can be explained by the fact that it was his debut and he wrote it in like 3 months after he got a false terminal cancer diagnosis.

If Lange still has a job this summer this club is in the mud. What he’s pulling is completely unprofessional, desperate bullshit. There is no data driven strategy here. We’re tossing darts at anyone who would come. It’s pathetic and will have huge long term impact.

Wait a minute, we employed Lange but we are acting exactly like we have for the last 20 years in the transfer market. Yeah I’m sure it’s his fault! :levylol: :levylol: :levylol:

No player in their right mind would join us this window on a permanent deal. Our manager could be sacked in two weeks. And we could be relegated. The obvious deals were loan deals with no option/obligation for players who were not in their current clubs plans. A chance for them to showcase their skills ahead of a summer mover. Tel may have come on that sort of deal but we insisted an a permanent move. If Levy was backing Ange he’d have given him a new contract and told the world he is the manager. But he hasn’t. We’re in a state of purgatory, so no wonder no one wants to join. Sack him or back him.

2nd problem … We have bought lots of players with potential, now we need experienced, peak year players to improve us and provide a solid base for the likes of Gray, Bergvall, Moore, Vuskovic, etc. to learn from. But we’re still chasing unproven youngsters. It’s a car crash of a strategy. You need a good mix.

3rd problem - linked to #2 above - wages. Pay peanuts, get monkeys. We are way too risk averse to be competitive over a full season. Buy 3 proper leaders for the spine of our team. Players that command £250-300k per week. We’d still be under 50% revenue to wages ratio, but we’re might actually have a chance of competing.

Tel not even on the bench today for Bayern. He's off somewhere I reckon.
Rashford off to Villa, the first domino to fall...

Think Premier League GIF by Manchester United

Ok so actually Duran was the first domino but here is the chain reaction which results in Spurs signing

Nobody

I wasn’t angry.

Notice you didn’t dispute any points made afterwards

I didn't think it appropriate.

You previously asked me a question... I answered it..... You concurred you didn't know what was happening afterall. We were done.

[ You laugh, but you found it awfully convenient no ignore much of what I wrote cos presumably it rang true and you had no retort.... Should I be held to different 'rules' to you or sumthin? ]
