This deal is all part of the "Illusion of ambition" that Levy wants to project.
I don't even think he buys that anymore, certainly no one else does.

The ambition at Spurs is to sustain a permanent ability to bring in world-leading revenue from fans while not spending world-leading costs on players. Any concern about results on the pitch flow exclusively from their leverage over said revenues.

The tactics change, the strategy never does and never will.

The fact we are not seen as an attractive option for a player of Tel’s standing in the game is an absolute indictment of Levy’s Spurs, considering the promises that were made when we moved into our “game changer” new stadium.

How we have transformed into such a rudderless, soulless mess of a football club before our very eyes is just so so sad.

I would have thought the idea would be to prove your talent by going to a fairly large Prem club and helping dig them out of a crisis.

he's 19. 4 year deal puts him into a huge new contract/move before hes 23.

Clearly doesn't fancy the fight which means he isn't what we need right now anyway.
I don't think so. Sounds like charity work! Because we so obviously have a ceiling under Levy. And that ceiling is below winning the league. And arguably below winning a cup also!

Who, with alternatives that have a higher ceiling, would go for it??

Obviously we don't know the detail, but I'd be surprised if we weren't offering him as much game time as any other big club can offer

You know what, I really miss the days when we wouldn't have a clue what was going on and then BOOM, Kilngsman signs on for Spurs fromo the Chairmans yacht

Munn welcoming Kilngsman to the boot room...

I don’t get this idea. He looks like an idiot atm. Why would he be making “fake” bids to get turned down by 19-year-olds? It makes him look weaker.
I'll break it down for you.

The illusion of ambition is making a big managerial signing like a Mourinho or a Conte. To make the fans think that the club is ambitious, and then failing long term to back either man.

Its signing a high profile sought after young lad (still on low wages) and saying "look we are ambitious"

Its doing the bare minimum to keep people from dragging you out from behind the curtain and recognising you are a fake, a charlatan. You aren't a wizard. You are a snake oil salesman.

Because the board thought a fancy stadium, nice dressing room, top of the range gym and training ground would attract elite players rather than decent wages and a desire to compete. They are now finding out the hard way.

Probably a bit of Bayern wanting one on one negotiations.

And according to a interview with Lange a couple of months back. Levy apparently still dips in to negotiate depending on who's on the other end.

On some level I can see the reasoning even if it is bizarre. If there's an absolute mentalist of a club owner/chairman on the other end we may as well send out own weapon in against him. But it does reek of Levy meddling with Lange's operation.

It’s the tried and tested good cop, bad cop routine! 😁
