Ordinarily if a player turns us down because he thinks he can do better elsewhere, then he can fuck off as far as I’m concerned. He is dead to me and I hope his footballing career dwindles into obscurity. Even though we can be a shit show and embarrassing at times, we are still Tottenham fucking Hotspur.
However, as this is simply a loan deal with no obligations on either side and it has the potential to improve us and get us over an injury crisis, then I don’t see much of a downside. If he’s crap, he goes back in June. If he’s good and ends up liking it here, he might be persuaded to stay. If he’s good but still wants to bugger off at the end of the season, then hey-ho, we just revert to our default analysis position where we say he wasn’t actually that good in the whole scheme of things.
The added bonus in all this, if he does sign, is that it winds up those ever so salty Utd fans, who still live in the Fergie era where they believe Utd snap their fingers and every player in the world rushes to sign for them. Fuck ‘em.
