Player João Palhinha

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

By running through said lines and past their press, you break their structural line, this creating chances for overloads and gaining an attacking advantage. Very, very basic stuff.

Again, I've said he was better on the ball because when he had his head down, he could beat people with pace and strength. Pal, well, he can't.

I've said exactly what I've wanted like 5 times, maybe read it again or something. Don't know how to help you bud. Anyway, if you want players like Palinha hanging about, you deserve everything the club is serving us up right now. Sub standard crap, who will absolutely not be bought, for obvious reasons.
Leave them ; they think Palhinha is Graham Roberts because he goes to ground every 90 seconds.

Sissoko didn’t dominate Chelsea at Wembley or Ajax in the 2nd half for this disrespect.

Palhinha doesn’t get anywhere mere those Pochettino squads - he’d have been discarded like Stambouli, Capoue, Paulinho etc.

Right now the difference in PPG between when he starts and when “championship level teenager” Archie Gray starts is negligible.

Nah

You’re taking one very specific action — straight-line ball carrying with pace — and stretching it into “being better on the ball”. That’s the entire issue. Running fast with your head down and barging past someone in transition is not the same thing as being good on the ball. It just means you’re physically hard to stop, those two things aren’t interchangeable, no matter how often you repeat it.

Very basic stuff.

Yes, Sissoko could occasionally drive past a press using pace and strength. Everyone accepts that. But that doesn’t make him “much better on the ball” in any meaningful sense. Ball quality is about touch, awareness, decision-making, passing under pressure and consistency — not just whether you can knock it past someone and win a foot race. You may as well said Usain Bolt is much better on the ball purely because he can run fast lol

Again very basic stuff.

What’s actually basic is understanding that a player breaking a line doesn’t outweigh limited technical security, poor passing reliability and zero ability to control a game. Sissoko’s carries were down to supreme physicality and pace, not evidence of superior ball quality.

As for the Palhinha bit — “well, he can’t” isn’t analysis, it’s just dismissive. Different role, different strengths. Palhinha being limited on the ball doesn’t magically turn Sissoko into a technically strong midfielder.

And then, predictably you strawman the final point like you always do  turning it into “if you like Palhinha you deserve how bad the club is”. That’s not what I have said, it’s just your typical over emotional response because your actual shitty argument isn’t holding up.

No one’s denying Sissoko was better at carrying the ball. The problem is pretending that equals being much better on the ball.
That leap still isn’t justified — and dressing it up with nonsense doesnt change that.
Your entire argument is strawman. I've given you statistics which explicitly state that Pal is fucking dreadful on the ball, turns away, allergic to taking a man on, like a deer in the head lights when he's pressed, and gets much less touches on the ball than most. Midfielders. I would say Sissoko is better in every regard there.

When Palinha plays, the opposition gets more of the ball in the space he occupies so he gets to fling himself at people more often, and idiots like you get a hard on for it, when in reality he has to do because of the limitations he has as a football and the ridiculous space between our midfield and attack.

But, If you want to believe he's a good player, you work away bud. Have at er.

Yes. Because Frank basically built the team around him. Now look at us.Ugly anti football and set pieces. Now look at us.

Paulinho also scored some goals for us in 13-14, Pochettino saw right through him as well.
He literally hasnt build the team around him. He was on the bench for ages and only got back in in the villa game.
We could have used that type of performance yesterday. Someone with a bit of fight

Absolute nonsense with your usual strawman at the end, you've just repeated what you said using different words ffs lmao

Aren't you bored of this because I am.

Palinha also has 4 goals this season
I don't put much credence into anomalys. Much like I didn't think Charlie Adams was a very good player, and got found out the second he went to a big club because that was all he offered.

Richy is outscring his XG, has a decent return, but if we're serious, he shouldn't be anywhere near our team. Looking blindly at stats is silly.

Pahlinha's a really good player for a mid table team that doesn't really want the ball and needs a pure destroyer. Absolutely elite at that specific thing - not a bad footballer at all.

Problem is we've brought him into a team that has no passing mids so his weaknesses are being exacerbated. That said, he's still been out best player in a number of games this season.

We shouldn't sign him as he's not gonna help us go where we want to go but he's really not a bad player at all if he's used appropriately and you understand what he lacks.

The fact we got to a CL final playing Sissoko in CM still boggles my mind. Such a bad player whose sheer effort and the very occasional insanely strong, powerful run up the field, convinced pockets of our fanbase that he was actually good. In reality he was a symbol of our decline and Levy's proclivity for making shit, opportunistic signings that make basically no sense beyond supposed 'value'.

Both are bad players. Very bad players. Gun to the head, Sissoko all day.

He has started and played several full 90s at home and we’ve lost. The mythology of him in you head is way more than the actual results.

“Fight” - Are we playing football or is it MMA?

I went to the Fulham game 6/7 weeks ago and I had a perfect view of what he does. He’s actually extreme selfish, he charges out of position looking to make a booming tackle so fans can applaud him, but what he actually is doing is leaving huge holes that his teammates can’t cover when he gets beat. Thats exactly how the first Villa goal happened last week too.

He doesn’t fool me. If you’re going to press, do it as part of a coordinated effort.
