Player João Palhinha

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Absolutely cannot knock his effort and passion. Unexpected goals added as well. Probably our player of the season which says a lot. Still dont know if i'd sign him though, we just have so much to do, we are desperately lacking midfield passers and £25m on a 31 year old is perhaps not the best use of resources. But credit to him, showing some of our leadership group up with his desire

Youre a major hypocrite.

You quickly bring up stats when you think it favours your argument (bringing it up to argue Gray was playing better than Bentancur in a match then failing miserably when the stats were presented which stated otherwise before stating "fair enough but I still think he's playing better" lol

Now you ignore the season stats because it goes against your opinion for Gray and Palhinha.

I was wrong about the stats in that game for sure

He’s been at the centre of some of the worst football I’ve ever seen in 40+ years of my life as a Spurs fan.

Last night was like watching a different player. I’d sign that player and make him captain. I just don’t think we will see it against West Ham.

Goals and assists are not what he’s here for and looking at his career they won’t last. You can’t sign Palinha to give you goals and assists. He tackles but isn’t the best at interceptions.

I’m open to him on a permanent but the contract would be expensive and we’d be writing off the transfer fee. The ONLY reason to do it is because we know the manager wants to give him the freedom to be the player we saw last night.
Sounds like we will be selling Dragusin. Use the money for Palhinha. Get Bayern down to 15m. We paid 30m for Tel so we’ll lose money on him. Why did we ever buy him.

This guy is one of the best tacklers I've ever seen really enjoyed him getting stuck in yesterday in a tough situation.
Our midfield would look so much better if we could partner him with a player that can pass and dictate the tempo, someone like Neves maybe??

He Gets ratings for clubs that don’t make the top half and an elite club got rid of him after a year.

I’m not falling for the new Freund/Brown/Stambouli. We can and should do better.

I don't think you realise how bad of a state we are currently in, signing him is a no brainer whilst you build the squad, that doesnt mean you build the team around him, it means he will raise the floor of the team for the time being, a very easy pickup during a rebuild.

Name me a better midfielder currently in our squad? Or name me a midfielder that we have that excels in other areas of the game as he does in his. First name on the team sheet for me he's got goals and assists from midfield wins the ball can pass as he showed last night and has 100% commitment and a fuck ton of passion. We are fucking mugs if we don't sign him yet persist with the likes of bentancur and gray.

We’ve got him now . It’s always hypotheticals instead of acknowledging the reality.

We have him now. As Thomas Frank’s first choice. Playing a style of play built to his strengths. Look at us!

I’d bet that if Pochettino comes in, he gets banished to the Gulag.

Even Leicester City had Esteban Cambiasso, Sunderland have Xhaka, Those are experienced players who are a cut above.

But you're not acknowledging reality yourself because when he doesn't play we dont look better in anyway shape or form. None of our other midfielders are indefinitely better than him at the moment or this season, this is our reality. He was benched for like 4/5 games in a row, did we improve??

Funny you mention Poch as if he didnt persist with Sissoko in his midfield for 3 years...

Frank, Palhinha, Bentancur . All 3 have to go

Pochettino had Sissoko as a utility player . He had 2 specific roles, be the legs for Trippier and/or Winks. Also he travelled with the ball really well in his awkward but effective style.

Most importantly nobody ever said he should be captain, and the player to build around. Cult hero at best.

Are you actually reading my posts??, I've literally twice said we shouldn't build a team around him and you're agreeing with me by stating the exact squad role give to Sissoko I'd have for Palhinha, you use him for a specific role to get the best out of him.

It's totally incorrect by saying that Poch would dump him because Poch prioritises energy in his midfields over technical ability anyway, was the same at Chelsea with Gallagher.

Palhinha simply isn’t good enough on the ball nor mobile enough to do a Sissoko/Gallagher role.

Poch liked energetic physical midfielders, but there’s a reason he got rid of Capoue and Stambouli ASAP.

Dier (long passing, Deep Crossing), Wanyama (press resistance, ball carrying) , Dembele ( press resistance, dribbling), Winks (DLP) all had something to offer in possession.
