Yes, exactly.
And I was answering Sammy's remark by pointing out that that it is, ultimately, Daniel Levy who decides who we sign and dont sign.

If Poch, or Jose, want a particular player that will improve our team, but Levy deems that player a financial risk or unlikely to offer the possibility of long term profit, we won't sign that player.

I think it's probably the reason why we never get over the line, and also the reason why we're floundering like we are today.

"To Dare Is To Do" has never been more inappropriate for the clubs motto
Our new motto should be...

dolet vere pecuniae impendio

The club probably told him that whatever was spent on a striker I January would reduce what he could spent in the summer. If you're given a £75m + any money made on outgoings to spend in the summer do you really want to get a striker in Piatek, someone Mourinho clearly wasn't too sure about in for 1/3rd of what the boss man is giving you for your pick and mix? There's always a scenario behind closed doors that plays a part in it all collectively.
Sounds like blackmail....

Talking to a pretty savvy business man recently and he says anyone taking Spurs at face value these days would believe Levy/Lewis have priced themselves out of the market if their planning to sell the club anytime soon ie; not many have the cash to buy a “modest” football club for approximately 1.5bn quid before doing anything else after that, and that rich people are rich for a reason, they aren’t foolish with their money....good point to be fair....

What he does believe tho is this chain of events might happen:

The owners have basically mortgaged the stadium meaning a buyer would never have to come up with all the cash required to buy the club all at once, it would basically be a case of buying L&L out and the mortgage stays with the club, so the club looks like 1.5bn on paper but would take only a fraction of that to buy....
He also believes the naming rights still up for grabs (Un-Levy like) has an underlaying agenda, he thinks Levy and Co don’t want to sell but instead bring in a massive partner, their share of the deal will be having their brand all over the place while Levy still runs the show....if you think about it, it’s a win win any way you look at it...because Levy and Lewis are still major shareholders any money from share sales can “legally” stay within the club as would any additional sponsorship....
It’s almost doing a Man City, but legally!!
How does "The Amazon Stadium " sound????

It's a stupid fucking question that doesn't warrant an answer when you look at the amorphisation of the transfer market over the last 2 decades.

How many times has he broken our transfer record recieved by selling our best players over the last 20 years
Recieved....??? That's received. Your arguments will be more persuasive if you get the spelling correct....😄

The reason we break our records is because of the silly money players cost these days. Not because he wants to spend.
There isnt one single current Premier League club that hasn't broken their transfer record on multiple occassions since 2015, let alone the turn of the century when ENIC showed up.
Yet unbelievably the cult are now trotting this out as some kind of excuse for all our failings.
It's seriously disturbing stuff.

Valid point. Transfer records will always be smashed the more money comes into the game. It's a part and parcel of how it goes.

I agree
It's called inflation or the cost of living. Remember the price of a pint 10 years ago? Or a curry? I do.

You didn't want GLC?
Maybe I didn't make myself clear
Lo Celso, great player, I know he can play CM but I prefer him a as a AM
Gedson - good prospect - AM
Ndombele - will be great if he can sort his fitness - AM
Clarke - Don't know if he will make it - AM
Sesseegnon - see above - AM

What we've needed for at least 2 years
DM
RB
LB
CF of quality, not a back up or stop gap

I'm happy to have players of this quality come in but we haven't addressed the areas where we are short.
Hopefully we will in the summer.

"There's nobody to blame and say you could didn't do your job well or you could do better than you did. Not at all. Again, we don't want a striker to just help us now. We wants a striker to be good for our future, possible to play with Harry Kane together in the future. And with the difficulties of the market, it was very, very difficult to find [one]."

John Thomas now

Jose had just signed a cuople months before that. He is hardly going to make a big fuss about his employer already. If Levy doesnt put out after Jose wins us something or gets us into the CL, then he will sing a different tune.

Answer the question I asked John Thomas John Thomas as he seems unable to.

Do you seriously believe that Levy refused point blank (to 2 managers) to sign a striker, whilst at the same time spending over £200m in 2 windows. Or is it the case that those managers prioritised other areas of the team ?

I very much doubt Mourinho , even after knowing that Kane is out for the rest of season, and how he likes to play hoofball would not want a replacement striker . He loved big tall lukaku too. He would have suggested to Levy that he wants a striker but not made any demands because of the reason I gave - just signed for us, cant make a fuss yet. Why on earth would he have prioritised Bergwijn when we had Son , Lucas, Alli and even Sess in the squad that can play that role when his plan A needs a tall targetman/striker which he doesnt have .

And Poch, who had been there 5 years ?

Did he make demands for a striker and was refused point blank in the summer, whilst signing other players ?

Of course Mourinho can make a fuss. He’s just been given a multi year contract at £15m a year a few weeks before the window. It’s the very best time to make a fuss as there’s no way Levy can risk losing him. Imagine the fallout if Mourinho doesn’t get everything he wants? He walks a couple of months after getting the job, making us the punchline to every joke out there. No way Levy risks pissing him off.

Id say it’s much more likely he wants a quality player that couldn’t be got in the winter window, or maybe could have been at £80m, but we can get him in the summer for £50m. No idea who, just suggesting alternatives to “Levy stared at Mourinho and his bottle crashed”.

And we’ve got a pretty tall targetman / striker. He just happens to be injured. Son would have filled in just nicely, but shit happens. Do you honestly think we should sign a world class striker and tell him he’s benched when Kane is fit? Or we tell Kane he’s now a sub?

And once upon a time Spurs were often the ones who held the highest transfer record. Norman Giller recounts how Spurs in their heyday were similar to Utd and City in theirs.

Those days are long gone. We spend because we have to. Although the fact our record transfer hardly plays is pretty fucking ironic. And our defensive record transfer has been pretty underwhelming too.
