Veliz on bench.
Espanyol lead 2-0 after 80 mins so Veliz unlikely to feature again.
Fernandez (22 yo loanee) has now scored 5 goals in 9 starts.

Stoke probably have a mole in their camp as well.
🤣🤣 🤣

What's he looking like btw? You think he's ready for the PL next season?
He was always a unit, but now he's learned how to use that big body of his to annoy the shit out of attackers. Dominates in the air, strong in ground duels, kid has decent pace and tekkers. Played very well today in what was a massive game, proper relegation dogfight. Helped Stoke keep a clean sheet away from home and involved in their goal...deflected a long throw into his teammate's path, who scored.

That said, and that's just my opinion, he sure ain't at the level yet where he could start for us...but then again we ain't a challenging team no more. Anyway, for sure I'd love for us to find him a PL loan somewhere like Palace, Brentford or even a promoted team...Burnley look set to come up and they're managed by Scottie Parker, aren't they...plus we got that special relationship after the Odobert deal.

Appreciate the effort to post a proper reply.

He’s still young for a CB and another loan is miles from being a disaster. As long as it’s PL

There appears to be a real lack of understanding between the skills experience required to be a starting level CB (ie replacing Romero or Van de Ven) which NOBODY seems to be making and the possibility that Phillips could be the 4h CB to replace Davies - with the advantage that in UEFA competitions he would count as List B (ie in addition to squad of 25 rules).

No he's not an obvious person to play in place of Romero or Van de Ven as starters but as a 4th choice CB who will not play too often and takes up NO squad place - ie allows an additional player in the squad - is a different question. And the answer is its a reasonable possibility for the manager next season.

I think it's been apparent for a while that this guy is a write off. Managers don't fancy him and goal return is abysmal for a target man.

Its possibly a more nuanced position - Veliz and his advisors have been pressing to get him a loan in top flight of Spanish football, which is too big a leap from Argentinian top league (by way of explanation some 400 Argentinian players play outside Argentina and no regular Argentinian international players play in Argentinian league - both of which mean the Argentinian league is quite weak, maybe L1 standard for example).

So to see what Veliz is capable of he really needs a loan in a lower league than top Spanish league - whether that's Portugese or Dutch etc.

Given he's not played regular first team football for about 2 years now, a much weaker league even L1/L2 might suit him even more. The issue could be one of pride - will be accept going 'down market' - but it would certainly not help him going to another top Spanish club.

If he's going to go to a lower league club then it should be in England. He'll be 22 next year, which is still young in the grand scheme of things (comparisons to Kane etc) but 1 league goal in 991 mins in a team 14th in the table is still underperforming minimal expectations.

Send him to Leyton Orient

I think if the club were still bothered about developing him, they would have recalled him in Jan and sent him somewhere he would play. Imagine they'll accept whatever River Plate/Boca offer in the summer.
