May be the point, but this really makes it look like they fucked him here

asking players to play on through anything these days is massively dangerous to their potential future transfer value- they're some of the clubs most valuable assets. even if the player wants to play on, they shouldn't be allowed to if it's noticed they are playing at risk of worsening an injury (almost always the case).

idk if that was negligence, incompetence or just delay in noticing and taking action, but it's unfortunate Bergvall didn't just lay himself on the ground and stop play if he was really feeling that hurt. These young players trying to impress by being "tough"- they need to understand that they are just hurting their own long-term futures by trying to play through pain.

Players run off little impact injuries all the time. You see it happen like 5x per game - someone gets tackled hard or takes a knock, limps for a minute or two then runs it off and is totally fine. You can't sub players off players as a precaution every time they take a hit - it would be absurd.

Equally the medical staff can't do scans on the pitch - they mostly have to just trust the player. In this case Bergvall could've gone off at any point if he just sat down and forced the substitution. The manager and medical staff can't force him to play.

Imo this is far more a case of an overeager young player desperate to play on despite his injury rather than an indictment of Frank or the medical staff.

Fair point

Also, they are professionals because they can tell the difference. In this case, they went out and assessed him, then sent him back out to play.

We don’t know if that did any extra damage but they clearly got the assessment badly wrong.

Yeah but that's kinda my point. I'm not a medical expert but I doubt from a couple of quick touches and palpations they can instantly tell the exact severity of a strain or muscle injury. That's what the scans are for. How often do we hear a manager after a game questioned by the media about an injury say "we're not sure how serious it is - we need to wait for the results of the scan". Happens all the time.

On the pitch I imagine it's as much about chatting to the player and trusting them to tell the medics how they're feeling, whether they think they can carry on, etc. Like if you go and see a doctor or a physio they normally chat to you for ages and give you a thorough assessment - these medics get like 30 seconds or a minute on the pitch with a player. They're professionals but they can't work magic.

The exceptions are usually black/white like concussions, obvious fractures, etc.

Have to agree with this. Things like dead legs knocks etc are always ran off. You have to trust the player.
On a side note im not absolving the medical team by any means but have we taken a look at the S & C team for all these injuries. There job is to prepare the team to be fit and robust enough to survive games without strains and tears. Impact injuries are hard prevent against but tears and strains can be pre empted

TBF if you know anything about Ange Derangement Syndrome you'd know that this nonsense is the cumulative effect on the brain of posting evidence-free conjecture in the service of a spurious and often malicious agenda.

But feel free to bring a professional Sports Scientist on here to testify - with evidence - that Lukas Bergvall's ankle injury was caused by the Boogeyman. Can't wait to read it.
Obviously you know nothing about biomechanics, unlike the rest of us here.

Good point, the prep work is obviously an issue and something that’s gotta be looked at asap.

Nah mate, this is all Ange's fault...

We have nothing to play for. For the love of god do not rush the kid back.

Season over.

Prepare him for next season under a new manager and make him strong as an ox when back fit.
Our medical team have received your mandate and we are on it...

fast forward 6 months

Bergvall steps out onto the training pitch much lighter... he looks about 9 stone wringing wet and he keeps shouting stroke, stroke, stroke...

New manager: What the fuck has happened to Lucas

Head of our Medical Team: I did exactly what your mandate said... Prepare him for next season and make him strong as a cox.
