Match Man Utd vs Tottenham Hotspur | Sunday 29 September | Old Trafford

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It's one of those borderline ones though. I understand why it's red, I also would have accepted a yellow.

It's nowhere near as controversial as the discussion it has warranted. All this mumping and moaning from the Media and United fans like it's some sort of gross injustice like United weren't getting battered before the card anyway.

As usual 75% of the punditary is focussing on how shit United were rather than how brilliant we were. We tore them a new one. Great teamwork
75% ...that's being generous!
I'd say a good 90% of what I've heard or read this morning begins with: "Man Utd..."

I don't think it's a red, he doesn't go in studs up and clearly slips - I think context matters in those circumstances.
See below... You're right, it IS context, and the context was that even in slipping, he still flicked out a foot to catch Maddison at any cost... In this case, the cost of a red card!
See I get that he slips but he still stuck his leg out. He didn't have to. He could just have slipped and let Maddison go. He wanted to stop him though so stuck his leg out with his studs showing.

Petulant. Desperate. Dangerous.

Red card.

Couldn't have happened to a bigger prick either. Loved it.

Hope he cops a bigger ban for whining in interviews too.
EXACTLY! That's why it was red... Yes, he slipped, but as he did, he still had the presence of mind to flick his foot out and catch Maddison... Which, if you think about it, is even MORE reckless, as he didn't have a clue where his other leg was going, due to the slip!

The skip might gave been accidental, but the snide little flick as he went was intentional.

Red for the red...

It’s a shame that we’re not getting much credit for that performance.

The general consensus from the media seems to be that Man United are in crisis, what’s next for them, etc…

But actually, we played really well! We made them look terrible. It’s not about how bad they were, it’s about how good we were

Some of us don't get to watch away games live, so when we win, I want to see the main action. Also, I can't sit and watch any other team for 90 minutes and quite happy to see highlights of other games, especially when certain teams lose. I usually turn off the punditry as they don't have anything to say that I'm interested in.
I've said it before - but it's worth repeating - if you can find the game being broadcast with a foreign commentary it's MUCH more enjoyable than having to listen to the utter tripe being served up in English. You can hear the crowd noise, but you're not constantly distracted by the stupid utterances of Lee Dixon & co.

The thing about the Man United over exposure, is that they smell blood. ETH is probably at the end of the plank, ready to be pushed off.
Their fans are probably all watching ready and waiting for it to happen too. Everyone is primed for that breaking news.
When they won 3-0 at our place in 2021, I bet all eyes were on us because they knew Nono was as good as gone.

I mean it's not really though is it, I don't think I've ever seen a snide flick catogorised as a red card.

Football really is getting soft if that is deemed a red.

It is petulant and dangerous.

He's coming out saying ' I just caught him with my heel'.

Yeah only cos of Maddison's movement. He didn't aim to catch him with his heel. He aimed to catch Maddison wherever he could, studs first, up to knee high while having no control cos he was slipping.

Actually, now I put it like that...ban him for the rest of the season!*

* I may have got a bit carried away.

Bruno slipped, didn't know what to do and acted reactively. I don't think he meant to cause harm, I don't think he was thinking at all.
However.... I have always felt anyone who raises studs should get a red whether they cripple some one or not. You'd go to prison if you shot at Trump and missed. You should get a red if you raise studs but miss.

Aint nothing dangerous with catching a player with your instep sorry - people need to stop being soft.

His aim was to stop Maddison, not to hurt him, his instinct was to stop him by any means naturally but because he slipped he made sure to stop him, not to hurt him.

Yeah you're concentrating on where he caught him which helps him defend his case but is irrelevant.

Obviously the intent was to stop Madders, and I don't think he intended to hurt him, but he showed his studs and got lucky.

He wasn't the one in control.

Why the heavy defense of a Manure player who fouled one of ours?
They will have to live with it like we have to when it happens to our players.
When was the last time you heard oppo fans sticking up for us getting non reds?

I do agree with you that the players these days do seem a bit soft, but, if we follow the letter of the law, then you do get soft reds and yellows.

Because I'm not a child and try to see things objectively, that's okay isn't it? We're all adults here mate so sometimes we're allowed to have mature discussions.

If the situations were reversed and Maddison went off for that we'd be livid and rightly so.

Shit happens when you lose your head. Son red card against Chelsea comes to mind. They've got nothing to complain about.

:ledleylick:What a joyful match, fucking hell that was incredible all round. Absolutely fucked this morning about 3 hours sleep, but worth it.
My GF is I think becoming slowly indoctrinated to Tottenham 😍😂 pretending to do busy work but little screams when Romero nearly scored and Johnson hit the post. She seemed a bit too happy when Bergvall came on though, the beautiful bastard!
:dawsonmean:

That was a great performance and yet we can still improve! I will not bash Werner, to be fair to him he got himself in position for 3 gilt edges chances, yeah he should do better, BUT, I prefer to view as similar to our early season form where we had plenty of chances but not clear ones and fumbled the passes to get the clear ones... We were at least controlling and doing things in the right areas and were having more shots... Look at us now.. Werner will hopefully also come good he just needs confidence and bashing him relentlessly won't help. Also his all round game was very solid, not a massive drop off from Sonny, he contributed nicely and had some good moments other than those chances.

All the commentators, pundits can fuck right off. Honestly if we were playing a team consisting of Putin, Bundy, Dalmer, West you know the commentators would be willing those cunts to score against us. Hell, I would go so far as to say if the fate of humanity rested on Tottenham's shoulders, they would still hope we lost 😂 it's like they are allergic to giving us any real non backhanded praise 😂 👌

‘Little Screams’

Now come on. What are we? VAR?

That's a still frame of an incident. You could make the case that he didn't touch him at all based on that.

I'm not gonna go on about it much more cos quite frankly I couldn't care any less about if the red was the right call or not.

It was but I don't mind if people don't agree.

However, I think we can all agree that it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!

:ange-lol:

Okay seeing as you're hell bent that he caught him with his studs, you show me how you got to that conclusion then?

Whatever they say in public, it wouldn't surprise me if Ref's dislike B. Fernandes. He's always got his ugly little mug in their faces, harrassing them mercilessly and moaning incessantly. Referees are only human - if I were the ref, I'd LOVE to give that little shit his marching orders. He gave the ref a decision to make - and the ref made it.
