Project youth!

We're really overhauling our academy, looks like we're the place to be for younguns these days.
I'm gonna be pedantic here, sorry...

Signing 18 year olds is nothing to do with the academy really, if anything it's an indication of the failings of our academy, as we wouldn't need to be signing players of this age if it were doing it's job.

An 18 year old signing would count as club trained on paper, but the age range for that is 15-21, and when I think of academy products I tend to think of the 15-18 part being more pertinent. By the age of 18 another academy has already done most of the work.

You pedantry missed the point spectacularly, no worries.;)

I meant signing players who will go into the academy.

It doesn’t show the academy is failing, we have a-lot of 18-20-year olds on loan, and as such the U21s suffered in terms of competitiveness this season. There’s no real downside in taking these projects off of other clubs. Most likely we flip them for a modest profit like Soonsup-Bell.

all academies sign players. Not every player signed at 6 develops in to a PL level player, some need moving on, some get poached and the academy needs topping up.

Champions of that shite league got to knockout round of the conference league unlike us when we were in it.

***while we’re on that PSA

Shsmrock Rovers are NEVER and should never be referred to as ‘Shamrock’

Either Rovers or shamrock rovers!

It’s like calling Aston Villa ‘Aston’

The British media does it and it’s fucking infuriating.

Announcement over

I'm not complaining about making these signings, I just don't see it as anything to do with "overhauling" the academy...
Suppose it’s how you define “overhaul”. It’s a change in strategy perhaps, in keeping with the way other clubs operate. I’m all in favour of targeting the best 16-18 year olds from anywhere in the world.
It’s good business sense and maybe something we weren’t doing so well previously.
