I think you saw Henry as the finished article, which after his first year at Woolwich he was. But the reason why Woolwich got him (for a song) was that he was always on the bench at Juventus (where he had gone from French national football academy) as he had been unable to show enough as a forward to be a regular in the team.

Change of team and manager and tactics .... and Henry's a star.

Now back to Tel on Bayern's bench mostly, not playing much this season (last season - different manager - different tactics - lots of playing time lots of goals and assists) ....... moving club and country, different manager, different tactics and .......... maybe a Tel back to becoming a top forward.

Henry was at Monaco before Juventus and was mustard.

It's because he's come from Bayern and everyone is defaulting to the German version.
Matt is so much easier.
Ask me how I know.
It's not even about German pronunciation, the spelling in no way suggests 3 syllables: Math - ys. There is no third syllable as indicated by the vowel cluster in the spelling of Matias or Mathias.

It's not a big deal, but it just irks me when people who get paid in the industry can't be bothered to do their homework. The likes of John and Paul in the pub, or even that iliterate twat Merson, fair enough.

So, 'Matt' will just have to do!

If anything, I am overwhelmed by this.

I have watched SOME Bayern games (mostly last season) and I've always felt that Tel has something special about him.
I mean I cannot stress enough how high his ceiling is. Right now he is just 19 yo kid, who has got 83 appearances for Bayern.
Within this time he has also scored and assisted in Champions League.

Overall he has contributed 16 goals and 7 assists (23 goal contributions) within 2464 minutes. So G/A for every 107 minutes. AS 19 YO (!).

All of it is beyond impressive.
It might sound bit over the top but I've got a feeling he has potential to be be top 3 forward in the world in 3-4 years time.
Just go and re-watch the video where he played against us. Look at his first touch for example. It is better than any of our current forwards (incl Son) has. Also he seems to be able to release quick pass/cross in fashion where every defender is not anticipating it already for 3 seconds.

"clearly didn't want to sign for us" - well first of all - as was said, being a foreign player with no emotional attachment to Spurs, it does make sense preferring to go globally better-known side. Specially given we are in 14th place with shocking form...
And 2nd of all - he in the end did decide to come. I doubt we forced or threatened him to do so.

And if you had watched games he has played in this season, you would have seen someone who at times looked like he was picked out from the crowd to play.

Top 3 forward? You absolutely would not have typed that had he not signed for us.

He came, in the end, because moves elsewhere didn't materialize. No point trying to delude ourselves into anything different. His final choice was to either come here and play games, or stay at Bayern and warm the bench, if he's lucky.

He was a highly regarded prospect expected to hit the very top before we were linked..... Which is why it stirred up such disbelief when when the news of our bid first broke.

This isn't Spurs fan hype.

Well, congratulations on getting to wear this jersey for the second coolest club

in the world.

Rock it and show the Bayern idiots that you belong on the pitch and not on the bench!

Good luck!

The hype was built from last season, where he often made an impact when he did start or was brought off the bench. This season he's been dog shit and made no impact when he did get a chance to do so.

I think he could be a good signing and aren't saying he's not a talent. Just think people need to calm down with the accolades a bit as he's a million miles away from being the finished article.

I know what you mean. Is this close enough?
