Ex-Spurs Player Matt Doherty

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Very noticeable tactical change today.

Following Guardiola tactics. Full back/wing back tucks into the central midfield area.
Everton had no clue how to combat that. Its why he had space and time to create through some top quality passing.

Leave Kulusevski out wide. I've been crying out for it for 2 seasons.

There were also moments where Kulu would drop back short along the touchline during the build up with Doherty more advanced inside.

Again I don't want to extrapolate too much from a performance against a pretty helpless opponent, but the two of them were difficult to mark and giving them fits down that right side.

This is exactly what I was suggesting, but with Begwijn as I figured he could do a good job linking up with Kane/Son.

Never knew Doherty was capable of it.

He was always a RWB at Wolves and looked horribly out of sorts playing RB last year.

I thought Conte bringing in a wingback system might benefit him, but he was clearly so lacking confidence it didn't come off at first. Maybe now he's getting his confidence back after a few good performances and will solidify himself in a system that should suit him.

a few good/ok games but he has been poor since he came here
lets hope its not just a flash in the pan
if he plays well the rest of the season then well done to him

2 good games against Leeds and Everton who have been poor. Everton pressing was worse than Spurs!

If he does it against Man U then maybe he has turned corner. Until then I will remember his previous [insert x] games with no affection.

He's more disciplined than Moura, who is the very opposite of what a wide player is supposed to be.

Who'd have thought that playing him in a system where he's proved himself in the past would work.

It's not his fault the previous 2 managers insisted on playing to his weakness not his strength.

I imagine this place went into meltdown when he missed that chance at Boro.

Great couple of performances in the league for him now. Looks strong and fit. Excellent combination play with Kulusevski and Romero. Hopefully he can keep it going.. the training time we have between games now should hopefully help our momentum as a team.

My son just reminded me that he had Covid too, that might well have knocked him sideways.

There's always been a player there. And this isn't hindsight, I've never jumped on the hate bandwagon.
