It's weird how a transfer like this quickly gets normalised. This isn't normal. I didn't see anyone linking us to Doherty.

It has already been said but why on earth are Wolves selling one of their key players? A guy with 3 years on his contract who was seemingly happy to stay? And not for huge money.

This seems sure to weaken Wolves and strengthen us, one of their rivals. So makes no sense from their side.

Can only guess that there's agent stuff behind the scenes that's made this possible. Mendes has a lot of power at Wolves, and if he wants to make the deal, there's a few levers he can pull I guess. It's a murky world, but working for us this time.

I'm now looking forward to more left field transfers - Kane backup should be next priority. Hoping for someone better than Wilson now.

I think they need to sell someone after missing out on europe and would prefer it not to be Jimenez or Toure

I admit that i'm not all over Doherty's performances for Wolves, but i not convinced that he's the upgrade everyone thinks he is. He a bit meh going forward. (nowhere near what you would expect off an out and out right winger) and from what Wolves forums say has all the problems at the back that Aurier has. Just seems like more of the same to me.

The club might net about £3m for these deals (if the figures are correct) which is a plus but does Doherty take us forward?

I think if you ask fans of other teams what they think of Aurier they'd say he's a bit of a joke/liability - that's never said about Doherty

If we can 'swap' him in for a profit and address another non-home grown slot then we are definitely ahead

I think they are managing stuff wisely and they will in fact move Traore on.
Guy is way-way-way-waaaay overrated now, perfect time to cash maybe 65 mil in for him.
In the long run he will be another Walcott..

But hey, in todays football if you are fast and flashy then most will think that you are the real deal and have all the skills in the world.

I still think we need more of number 10 type to challenge Dele rather than Rakatic. Also, we desperately need a set piece specialist. Could be crucial to improve that area of the side to score some cheap goals force teams to come out against us and let us play on the transition.
Agree that we still really need a set piece specialist / Eriksen replacement. Club clearly recognised that with interest in Bruno.

Coutinho would transform our attack, but is probably out of reach.

How is he meh going forward ? You clearly have ignored his performances last season and his stats. He has the best assist output for a right back other than TAA. He’s a massive upgrade on the hapless Aurier.

You're probably right.

I think my frustration is with the system. Wing backs only really work if they're very very good ie Peak Walker/rose or Robertson/TAA. If they're not then I think you get the worst of both worlds, Poor on the attack and shit at defending. This is compounded by only playing one wing back a la JM, it just makes us so predictable and easy to negate. I'd rather we went with a 442 tbh specialist FB's and specialist wingers.

Not a fan but apparently Koeman wants him to stay at Barca for his rebuild.

If you ask fans of other clubs what they think of Kane, they'd say he's overrated and a cheat. If you ask them about Lloris, they'd again say he's overrated and a shit goalkeeper and wouldn't start for their team.

We need to upgrade Aurier with a good defender but from what the Wolves fans are saying Doherty seems to be worse than Aurier defensively. What if we're basically getting another Trippier?

According to the PL Doherty has one less assist than Aurier (8v9) in 40% more appearences than Serge. Hardly convincing evidence of an improvement. But i hope you are right. :)

Have you seen Auriers crossing accuracy stats ? 😂 in nearly 200 crosses last season, Aurier has a 12% accuracy rate. So effectively he’s probably only put in roughly 20 crosses to our team out of 200. The guy is fucking useless mate and Doherty is the 2nd best Right back in the league after TAA.

Not a sexy signing as such but I'm assuming he counts as Home grown and 7 goals last season seems really decent considering he's a RB

My concern would be how he fits our system because he has a very specific role at Wolves but I think he's a much more reliable option than Aurier so it's probably a good deal considering the relative low cost

Dan Kilpatrick also suggesting the deal is almost done

Spurs and Wolves are finalising the details of a deal worth £15million plus add-ons for the 28-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who has been at Molineux for a decade and has three years remaining on his contract.

Doherty, who would count as another homegrown in Spurs' Premier League squad, made nearly 50 appearances last season as Wolves made a deep run in the Europa League, impressing Spurs manager Jose Mourinho. As well as right-back, he can play on the left side of defence, in midfield and even at centre-half.

The Irishman recently changed representation to super-agent Jorge Mendes,
a close associate of Mourinho who is influential in the running of Wolves.

I can’t believe some people were trying to use stats to defend him on here. “He got five assists. His tackle stats are twice Dohertys.” He has no variation to his game at all. He does the same thing time after time, of having acres of space on the right and lobbing in hopeful balls with 1/20 being eventually finding a team-‘mate.

Doherty’s not perfect, but he’ll put in a cross, he’ll feint and try and beat his marker and get into the box for a cut back, or he’ll play a ball to a team-mate and run off the ball for the return pass. I’m so looking forward to not having the predictable waste of possession time and again like with Aurier.
