Manager Mauricio Pochettino

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I would love one of Pochettino's fans to tell me exactly how he has improved the first team and where I can see that being reflected on the pitch? As far as I can see we have gone backwards on all fronts.

I'm pretty sure if I delve into one of the AVB threads I can find the same feeble excuses that people made for him that are currently being trotted out for Pochettino and the crap he is serving up.

Patience is something to be earned, I've seen nothing to justify this sheep like desire for giving him lots of time.

The bottom line is the players aren't playing for him, just think about that.

But can we go down the road of another manager? Surely at some point the playing staff need to be brought to account? He can only do so much with what he has at his disposal. And for me that ain't an awful lot.

I think everyone at the club should be held to account - Levy, Baldini, Poch and the players.

If Levy and Lewis want to sell Spurs and make a fat profit then they are going the wrong way about it!

Remember Sherwood had essentially the same squad of players and we didn't lose to Stoke.

I don't think Poch will be here come January unless things improve to be honest. It's not like he will make the major decisions on transfers anyway. Not sure it matters who our manager is anymore.

I want Poch to stay. Another sacking will ruin us, no players will want to come here who actually want to play for the shirt and no decent manager will touch the vacant 'hot-seat'.

They haven't bothered playing for ANY manager for years

No we got beaten easily by a relegated Norwich and were made to look like a Sunday League team against West Ham twice though. Not to mention being neutered from kick off by anyone above us. At least we showed some fight this season against City.

Also don't forget Sherwood had the luxury of an Adebayor that gave a shit having spent months in the reserves.

Our players are gutless simple as that.

I still think the players are mostly to blame, but still...football doesn't have to be a super complicated game. If your "philosophy" takes six months to explain (or even longer in AVB's case) then maybe it's just a shit approach. Our players are obviously idiots so keep it simple stupid :capouestare:

The football under AVB was pretty horrendous but there was a system.
Fuck knows what that was today.

We were a shambles all over the pitch.

I just don't understand why we've stopped the high pressing and the 4 attacking players switching positions - we actually looked half decent in pre-season. Even if the players aren't up to it or aren't listening we should still be trying to actually do something.

i thought it was a really odd starting line up.
Most disappointing (apart from faz ahead of Jan) was that Kane finally got a start but only as a lone striker. He tried his best but that is not his position. especially when up against to big ugly centre halves. If we're going to stick with this 4231 then he needs to play anywhere along that 3 for me. Joining up with the striker as and when he can.

I really want to see him playing up there with soldado to be honest. Whenever those two are on the pitch together they seem to be able to find each other with passes in the box quite often as they are both quite clever players.

Can anyone offer an explanation for why he seems to have abandoned his tactics completely?
Yes. He has not got the players to do it. Only two who do run around making themselves available and closing down are Lamela and Mason. They invariably have just two touches before they release it.
Dembele, Paulinho, Chadli, Eriksen, Capoue, Adebayor are not going to do it. They all have limited engines and hold onto the ball too long. We also have CB's who dwell with the ball and are too slow.
We have a midfield that is very immobile, apart from Mason and Lamela, and no pace up front. You also cannot play the high line with slow CB's unless you close down the opposition, starting from the front.
That's why we have become very vulnerable to the ball over the top.

Football is about passing and moving. Basically it's a simple game. You pass the ball and then run into space making yourself free and near enough to receive it, working hard for each other. When you haven't got the ball you defend from the front.
A lot of our players forget that. They stand static with their backs to the opposition wanting ball to feet.
Midfield is the hardest position as you have to have an engine. Capoue, Eriksen, Dembele, don't possess one. If you want to see movement/work in midfielders:
Look at Eriksen's heat map for his half. Look at Capuoe's for the 1st half. Then take a look at Mason's.

After that take a look at Bojan and N'zonzi's compared to Capoue and Eriksen.

I just think we're stuck with a bunch of pretty average footballers who are quite happy to stroll through games. They're probably superb in training, but for whatever reason they decide to just not turn it on for match days. At the end of the day we can all blame Poch for his team selections or the way he has us playing, but the players too are part of the problem.

They're weak mentally and quite clearly hell bent on not wanting to adapt to a style in which Poch wants for whatever reason. Like many have echoed, we did well in pre-season and it even looked like something was working early on in the season but as it's progressed it just seems to have been given up on and I will not blame Poch for that, he isn't going to abandon his own philosophy like that.

I am always willing to give managers time, I just hope HE is backed and I hope HE is the one allowed to make the decisions from now on. Let him get his own players in, he will know what players are needed to fit his style and can push us on to the horrible level we are at now. I want him to just come down hard on some players, give them a damn reality check, this is not the Tottenham way. I don't care how good you are, if you're not believing in Poch's future and you're not in it for the team then get out of the club, this is a team effort. We cannot keep carrying passengers like a Capoue or even an Adebayor the majority of the time if we want this to work. In Poch I trust, in Spurs I believe.

DeeGee

We seemingly had the players in pre-season to play it - the midfield and attack of Capoue, Mason, Lamela, Holtby, Lennon and Soldado was playing the system perfectly well.

The league itself this year is so unpredictable and a lot of the so called 'bigger teams' have not exactly been great either. Just look at Liverpool, we're level on points with them only behind on goal difference (1 goal). We're still only 3 points from Woolwich and 4 points from the top 4. Although we've been utter shit for the majority of the season, it's still all there to play for! We need to be patient.
