I think that system showed a huge impact in the QPR and Sunderland games....the problem is that people dismiss the QPR game as "they are shit", and they dismiss the Sunderland game because Kane scored an own goal and we drew.

We were shocking against WBA and Pool, but we have only played this way, under this manager for 5 PL games.

The first game of the season we had 10 men from the 25th minute, and still won.

We´ve only lost twice and played poorly in both. Thats life.

We´ve been better in a lot more games than we have been poor...thats the impact.

Early days.

You make some fair points and I agree it's early days. However, the incompetence and lack of energy in our first two home games concerns me.

I expected a new season and new manager to bring on an immediate impact in terms of vim and vigour, even if the players are adapting to a new system.

Let's hope this changes.

I agree with the home games. We seem so lazy sometimes.

My point is if Eriksen, Lamela, Ade and Chadli is not working, change the shape and don't bring on Soldado, Townsend and Lennon who can have little impact over 2 seasons, let alone 20 mins. On paper our original lineup SMASH the baggies etc. Esp with Dembele and Capoue on the pitch. It wasn't happening. So use the same players and change the shape to a more attacking one instead of Eriksen behind Ade. Go with a back 3, put Rose on the wing and bring Dier into a more familiar role with Kaboul in the middle and see if that works...There are so many options.

I'd even go as far as not even changing it rather than bring these style players on. Because if the ball drops to Eriksen or Townsend: Which player would you rather be taking a shot in the 80th minute? Even things like taking off Ade and Chadli for Soldado and Lennon impacts us from general aspects because they help when defending and attacking the many set peices we win compared to the latter.

Other benefits is that the starting 11 get more time and bond/create partnerships, including shit that does not work so you learn from it. Chopping and changing IMO did us no favors. And if we do make a change, make a REAL change: Bring Bentaleb on and make him an AM. Don't swap one tiny dancer for another tiny dancer that is going to bounce off the parked bus while they wait for a break down our flanks etc.

The point is people say give the managers time, IMO we have to give Lamela and Eriksen as much time on the pitch together as possible with Ade mentoring them and getting our main attackers to gel.

Even in the past, his very best top form almost never lasts a season and he's our longest serving player. I fully understand why Poch wanted to get rid of him on loan. I don't understand why he would do that and put him on the bench in the prem as a "positive" attacking option.

IMO Lennon is the embodiment of everything that has frustrated us a club. Weak, lopsided skills, flashy and unreliable with poor concentration and game intelligence. Bad decision making, limited ability, limited physical ability, poor shooting, pisshead, poor/delayed crossing and creativity, fades and people playing next to him suffer droughts, get overun and don't learn anything.

Lennon = soft Spurs.

You're right and I share the frustration.

For all the criticism that Tottenham supporters get for being negative, we also have a collective tendency to mythologise individual players based on a few quality moments in a sea of mediocrity.

Lennon can look great bombing forward, does some good tackling back but is mostly ineffectual. Teams know to just let him do his thing down the sideline until he hits the end, when he'll run it out or hit a terrible cross straight to them.

The decision to pick him in the past few years seems to be based on what he could do not what he will do.
 
Appreciate he's not ronaldo but lennon is capable, can still breeze past players, draw tackles. I think his crossing has improved over the years - it's not as if any other cunt in the team is nailing crosses. Anyway He's getting asked to work more centrally so let him run across the field and not have to cross the ball.
Also there is his famed defensive work.......

100% agree with your entire post there. What's especially stark is how different our Liverpool and WBA performances were compared to the others. We bottled the high pressing game against Liverpool because the players were likely too scared, and I'm convinced that we were coasting the West Brom game, thinking we'd win easily.

(Case in point, look at any team this season who have gotten a result against Liverpool - they've played with no fear and exploited their poor defence)

Early days indeed - I wouldn't pretend to know exactly how Southampton initially took to Poch's tactics (or how much time they needed), but I'd hazard a guess they were also inconsistent at the start.

Sunday's reverse at White Hart Lane left Pochettino's men in ninth place and meant a second home defeat for him in three Premier League games since taking over from Tim Sherwood.

Spurs are on home turf again on Wednesday when Nottingham Forest are the visitors in the third round of the Capital One Cup, and Pochettino wants his team to play with a higher level of intensity.

"We need to be more prepared and more ready because the Premier League is strong and the Europa League is strong," Pochettino said.

"We need to change the mentality and make sure we are ready every time.

"You go to the stadium and you have to be able to compete and be strong because every game is different.

"We need to move the ball quicker, faster. West Brom played long balls and tried to win the second ball.

"We had a problem because we were always late to the second ball - we took a lot of time to get into the opposition's box. We need to be more aggressive in the last third of the pitch."

Changes
Pochettino is likely to make changes against the Sky Bet Championship pace-setters but he says that can be no excuse for a poor performance after making 10 changes on Sunday from the side that drew 0-0 with Partizan Belgrade.

"Our best starting team depends on each and every game - there is no doubt about that," Pochettino added.

"It's not an excuse. A bad performance on Sunday is not because of the changes. We have a very strong squad and we need to use our players - we have a lot of games ahead and after each match we analyse every player.

"At the moment the players are not in a position to play three games in one week.

"When I arrived here I knew the situation - I knew that maybe there would be some ups and downs at the start of a new period.

"It's always different when you arrive at a new club with different players and you need time to get to know each other.

"I'm not worrying about the situation. I believe at the moment we need to have more points to reflect the table.

"It's the beginning of the season, it's not how we start it's how we finish. We are sure our team will improve not only in how we play but in the results over the next few weeks."
 
Seems he knows exactly what the issue was on Sunday - I just hope he can get the players motivated.

It's pretty bizarre that he and other previous managers have struggled to do it.......I mean what do the players exactly expect to happen? They can't carry on pissing off the fans and stumbling from one new manager to the next forever.

We are the ONLY team in any competition not to at least scare the shit out of Liverpool so far. Southampton missed sitters, they needed an iffy penalty in the Champions League and needed 14 penalties to knock out Boro last night.
WBA were rock bottom with the whole world seeing how poor they were and they turn us over.
Sunderland had one (deflected ) shot and scored twice against us to nick a draw.
West Ham missed a penalty and lots of clear headers to get punished in injury time.
Cypriots had their moment in the sun against us until late on.

We still have deep rooted problems overall to start progressing to any real extent. Add in a dicking at the scum-pit on Saturday and Poch's task will feel bigger due to the pain we'll all suffer.
