Manager Mauricio Pochettino

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I was there that night. I don’t get to many games, so that one sticks in the memory vividly.

As for Pochettino, he’s obviously not stupid. He’s seen how Madrid have performed in Spain, and even took 4 points off Zidane’s team in person. He would have known that there was a high probability of the Madrid job becoming available, so if he was interested would he really sign a new contract with us?

The Madrid job is a poisoned chalice. Maybe in ten years he’ll fancy spending 2-3 years on the Madrid managerial merry go round, but he’s in a great position right now and he knows it. Madrid will be looking for a new manager every other year or so, so it’s not as if this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

As are most PL managerial jobs which’s is why the average tenure is just over a year. When you have a club like Leicester sacking a title winning manager months after winning it we can no longer mock the Spanish. And we have history as well, Jol and Redknapp are proof of that - all it takes is a bad run of form and the sentiment changes completely. In such a capricious industry no manager can afford to wait and certainly not for a decade.

I’m not mocking the Spanish. Like you say, it’s the average. Pochettino is building up a great reputation in an environment where you rarely get to have enough time to truly shape a club in your image.

Good job it wasn’t in Harry’s image :harryhmm:

I’m honestly as cool as you like about these rumours. I can’t see him leaving just yet.

Pochettino if is intelligent remains at Tottenham without giving in to the lures of Real Madrid. Zidane leaves a team that has won 3 CL: the “ locker room “ how will welcome a coach who has not won in the same way?
Cristiano Ronaldo then maybe he goes away and then the new coach could be like scapegoat.
Pochettino must continue in the "Spurs project". When he has exhausted the fire he will then be able to go and look for new dreams. Now he has not done enough in London.
Are you Spanish mate?

I think you're spot on anyway.

If you are and have kept an eye on Madrid gossip, who would be your bet? My money is still on Löw, he's always been the name in the background, I wouldn't be surprised if there had been contact in the past.

There is only one persons image at the club and that is Levy- it is very much his ‘project’.

I’m not really bothered by there news - I think Conte is the obvious choice. Even if Poch goes most managers would kill to work with this squad, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Me too.

I know I defended Marca above but have no doubt they will be reporting what is coming out of Madrid, they're not inventing this stuff or even driving it. It should be remembered that they were 95% right on the whole Bale saga throughout the summer when we were all clinging to stuff like Gibbon Boy calling his daughter AVB (Alba Violet[?] Bale - and hey, me too, I remember telling a Madridista just this, embarrassingly) and howling at Marca for making shit up out of thin air.

LIke I said earlier, a swift and conclusive denial from Pochettino would be a treat, to put everyone's mind's at rest and also not hinder the *cough* hopefully ongoing negotiations with our key players for their new contracts and those with our potential new signings.

Like it or not, the press (in Spain, the UK and elsewhere) will love the uncertainty at a time when beyond Sterling's tatoo there's not much to talk about

I read a survey of AS. According to readers it is a head-to-head Klopp 40% / Pochettino 34%. (97,000 voters)

I think Levy and Pochettino see eye to eye on this, which is why he’s lasted so long. I genuinely believe there is a mutual respect between them.

And Pochettino has clearly shaped the team in terms of how it’s been built. He started with defence, then on midfield, then attacking midfield (with a few discrepancies). He rid the club of the bad eggs in favour of youth, and has slowly carved this team into what it is today.

Levy’s done his part as well. The training ground and impressive new stadium will be his legacy. The pair of them are working wonders within their limits.

All Poch has to do is come out and tell the press that he's ruling himself out of the running for the Real job.

C'mon Poch - get out and say it please asap.

Fucking would if we got Wenger!

I'm Italian but I lived in Alicante in 2003 so I like to read the Spanish press to understand that now the Spanish teams are in charge.

To answer you correctly I have to think: I did not expect Zidane's movement but Zinedine has always been very thoughtful in the choices. I hope Pochettino understands the risk of going to the RM. Of course it is difficult to say no, however: 1) must end the Spurs medium-term project with the new stadium to be inaugurated. 2) if Zidane goes away, anarchy will reign in the team. Cristiano is not in the photo of the RM subscriptions campaign. I predict a powder magazine.

Sky reports no clause.

"Sky Sports News understands the Spurs boss has no buyout clause and club sources deny that there is a verbal agreement for Pochettino to be granted permission to discuss a move to La Liga."
