The front line is still pressing. It's defensive midfield and the centrebacks where the crisis has been. So Poche needs to re-jig things until he has players in those positions who will play properly.
Yeah I thought there was pressing from those areas too, certainly at the start. On the first Stoke goal there's lots of pressing high up, then the ball goes to Bojan and everyone totally stops and does the opposite and backs away from him so that he can run through our whole defence

It was the central midfield and defence that backed off, which is where the root of all issues seem to be.

The problem with a complete sale is that then we have to bring in new blood, who take time to gel, so we need to give them time.

Not disagreeing though, I think the team needs a sensible clear out.

Agree. I think everyone is on trial at the moment. Those who fail the audition are going to be shipped out, but trouble is that can only happen slowly as not everyone will get another club straight away and therefore still be around the training ground

If hypothetically, we were to get relegated with this current squad, how many first team players would stay and fight for promotion back into the Prem? My guess is probably Younes, Walker, Mason, Kane, Naughton, Townsend and probably Dier. The rest would follow their agents advice and jump ship, there lies our problem.

The same could be said of 90% of the squad of 90% of PL teams.

The problem we have that you're pointing to is more that if that did happen, which I really don't think it will, then we know it's those kinds of players that are at fault.

Whoever brought those guys in, let the rot set in etc are truly the ones to blame. No player is bigger than the team, but when we're made up mostly by those with the mindset - that they are bigger than the team; you start to see this issue.

Several posters here have said that some of our players are looking to move on and some of our players know that they will be moved on. Isn't that a big part of our problem right now? A successful January, even if it means losing Vertonghen will only be measured by the amount of players we have who want to be here.

We could lose our key players and it would be successful if they don't want to be at Spurs any more.

I'd hate to see those key players go, but we're talking on here a lot about a long-term attitude change and that means losing players, losing places in the league and I feel like this is why Poch is our man. He may not have a great track record and he may look a bit clueless at times, but with a team who plays his way he can keep us in the top half of the table during this transition.

Walker would not play for a championship side. Don't really believe Townsend would either. The others, possibly.

I'd quite happily see us field Dier, Fredericks, Veljkovic, Mason, McEvoy, Kane and Coulthirst and lose 2-1 than see £150m of 'first team' wasters taking up spaces on the team sheet and achieve no more, said it when Sherwood was in and still mean it now.
I am not entirely convinced we'd actually lose. They're perhaps a little underweight, but I think they have the energy, fluency and brains Poche requires.

If the reports are true concerning Paul Mitchell joining as Head of Recruitment from Southampton it is a definite positive show of support for MP, and one which strengthens his position among certain players who, at the very least appear to have not fallen in line.

It is always difficult to know what will and what won't work, if it wasn't then Ramos would still be at Spurs! But identifying the staff areas that are of concern is always a good sign.

What that means for Baldini, who knows?

Just said this in the levy thread but do you not think this just seems like yet another reactive move after pressure from the media. Comolli comes out and says are scouting is a joke. The very next day there's stories in the press that we're looking to bring this guy in.

If they wanted to show support to poch then they could have done this before the season started.

I don't know maybe he thought he could improve what he had and now he knows that some if them are lost causes. Disappointing really as I was lead to believe he was a coach who got the best out of players. Who can you say in the squad has genuinely improved under him. Maybe Danny rose? But even then he's still not great. Lamela couldn't really have got worse.

Mason and Kane have come in but difficult to know if they already had that ability and just needed a chance or if poch has actually made them better players.

What's with the leaks that come from Tottenham all the time?

Every day you hear that there's either players fighting with each other, with the manager, questioning the chairmen, the chairmen questioning the director of football, the manager not happy with the targets not being bought. Is every single 1 bullshit or is it true our inner sanctum is as safe as The Cloud?

Both. We've got plenty of staff eager to leak, and not everything said comes to pass. It is very convenient that all the stories come out now. But that is just when the leak happened, not when the club took action. These problems would have been known for a while, internally, but details may only have reached the leakers pay grade yesterday.

You are right. There does seem to be no real idea of direction, and the board certainly seem reactive but if the pair have a good relationship it can't be worse than having Baldini.

It might be a little early to judge player development just yet, that said there are some who seem to have regressed if anything.

Surely, Levy has seen how shit the players we've spent over £100m on have been doing and realised he needs to sort the scouting out. He can't have made an approach just because Comolli tried to get himself publicity.
